Its a blast to drive , the v8 really sings in the high RPMs. ---

wonder how it would compare to my uncle's Haibeck tuned 92 that dynoed at 455 at the wheels..

That John Lingenfelter guy was a very sharp fella. Damn shame he passed on at a relatively young age-he would probably have been right in the middle of all the current new car performance stuff.

Yeah it is a shame.

I was just told today that he drove ALL 100 of the ZR-1 cars they did during the 6 years of production ... now I can imagine him sitting in my seat next time I get in the car for a cruise :) ---

Hope he didn't "scare" himself in your seat then.....:noway:
LHD cars over 30 years old can be registered for road use here without having to be converted to RHD, so only 7 years to go before I can import a ZR-1 :clonk:

I agree, right now is the time to buy!!!

You are right, the engine was designed by Lotus ... and put together by Mercury Marine since they are pros with aluminum.

The dyno curve pulls all the way to 7k rpm , when the secondaries kick in ... its quite the experience :) (reminds me a lot of a 4 barrel carb) ---

Congratulations! I'd be very interested in your comparison between the ZR-1 and your Viper GTS. I've thought about putting a Viper GTS next to my ZR-1 more than once! :)

You forgot to mention.. the LT5 is the ONLY O/H cam (non push rod) V8 Chevy ever built! :) and another neat point... Mercury Marine ran every single LT5 on the Dyno and produced the dyno sheet and delivered it with each engine to the Bowling Green Corvette plant!.. and don't forget.... never give the 'valet/Power key' with your sons... :) (if you have any and let them wash it..).. :)_
I've owned 3 1990 ZR-1's and still have two! In my stable currently is #246 (red/red) and #2466 (white/gray). The LT5 *sound* under power is totally unique from the drivers seat! I'm not sure where you are, but when you have a *cold* but dry day, go take it out.. it's like it has a supercharger breathing COLD air.. :)

The feeling and the pumping adrenaline you get from 4000-7000 rpm is so much like the early 302 Z28, it's unbelievable! I plan to keep #246 and my '69 Z28 as long as I'm breathing!

I bet the white and gray is nice ... I almost looked for a white vette :)

As far as Viper vs ZR-1 here is what I get:

The easiest way to compare them is torque vs high rpm.

The Viper is putting out 120 more ft lbs torque ... and you can really feel it down low. The engine tops out at 6k rpm and with 3.73's that seems quick.

The ZR-1 is a blast to keep revving to the moon ... especially with the 3.45's

The ZR-1 seats are WAY better , because I am a thin guy ... they hold my sides better.

The ZR-1 actually rides smoother in performance mode vs the Viper.

The Viper and ZR-1 both shifted around the same until I put a short throw in the Viper ... and now I prefer the notchiness of the Viper , they use T-56's ... so installing the short throw setup includes an improved gate setup, not a shorter shift rod.

The Viper actually has angled pedals for the heel - toe , which felt weird to me at first, but I am getting used to it. I prefer the pedals on the ZR-1 for sure.

Driving the ZR-1 is a lot more comfortable ... the Viper seems to demand a lot more respect.

They both feel confident in the twisties. Both should be high 11 second capable cars.

Honestly ... seems like they are almost as opposite as you can get when comparing two domestic "supercars". I prefer the v8 rumble ... but the v10 high lift crackle is growing on me :) ---
