How close can the coil be mounted to the ECU? I'm out of real estate under the hood and i'm mocking everything up and have the ignition box mounted where my wiper motor used to be and the ECU on the pass side firewall and the coil will be about an inch or 2 from the ECU with the spark tip facing away from the ECU. Is this too close? Will it cause some kind of interference with the ECU?

That is too close imho. I guess it will depend on the quality of the shielding of the coil and ECU. What ECU are you using? I thought most were intended to be mounted inside the car.

For some reason I thought it was intended for mounting inside the car because it is not sealed. I could be wrong but check the instructions.

From the instructions:

The ECU can be mounted inside the passenger compartment (preferable location) or in the engine compartment. If mounted in the engine compartment, follow these guidelines:
1. The ECU should be located such that it isn’t being directly hit by water or road debris.
2. It should also be located such that it isn’t extremely close to exhaust manifolds or headers.
3. It should be mounted such that it is as far away from spark plug wires, CD ignition boxes, or other “electrically noisy” devices as is reasonablypossible.
4. Make sure the connector end of the ECU is pointed DOWN such that water can’t make its way into the ECU terminals. Do not over-tighten mounting hardware if the ECU is not mounted on a flat surface.

There is a bracket to mount it under the seat of a Mustang. Maybe it can be adapted.

I tried the search for the thread that suggested a false panel on the passenger floorboard, but I can’t seem to find it. It’s an interesting thought, but you won’t see the LED lights, but there’s limited real estate, and limited harness length.

I put mine under the dash on the extreme far right. Some here have put it in the glove box.

I have mounted a few factory ECMs that way but they don’t have any diagnostic LEDs. PSI harnesses are usually short and options limited.

What if it were angled upwards?
I mounted the Dakota bus box on the upper most area.
when I started looking for a place I was really considering a remote location and using fiber optics to transfer that display, but it looked like one more idea that probably would leave me disappointed.
I think it could be done, but I’m already 7 months into this, working 6 days a week with one day to go to the shop and work on this car, and still haven’t burned a drop of fuel…..

There is always the false kickboard/panel on the PS floor. DSE has done that with some of their builds.
Ripping seats and carpet out today... i'll get this one way or another.. it might not be pretty
