Just put new OEM semi metallic brake shoes on my 2nd Gen. Drums are bad so I figured I'd replace them too. Found new AC Delco drums on the net but they say not to use them with OEM shoes. Anyone else ran into this?

It was always recommended that metallic brake shoes not be used with the original brake drums that came from the factory with asbestos brake linings. I always went against that recommendation and never had a wear problem. I believe better quality drums were listed for use with metallic shoes. Metallic shoes stop excellent when hot, but the first few stops when cold leave a lot to be desired.

Nwe drum brakes with new hardware and a power booster work fine.......most today have never or can't remember how good they actually worked, except when wet.

Full metallic brake shoes (with the pucks) require a finer finish on the wear surface of the drum. Other than that the drums are the same.
In NO WAY are drums or power drums even comparable to disc brakes. Wet or dry.

I agree with Mahunt those nine inch drums are just awful . G/M used them on everything Chevelles Camaros and Novas. The General missed the boat on that one in the brakes Department . Ford and Mopar used much bigger drums on their comparable cars and they were adequate for the time. Much better than the G/m offerings.You literally could not shut down fast enough if you had any more than 250 horse and were hanging a set of gears. Do yourself a favor change over to disc brakes , much much better. Believe me I am old enough to know at one time or another in the past half century I have driven performance cars from all three makes and disc is the way to go. I am also old enough to know. Alex
