On a base model 68 with factory air, but manual brakes and manual transmission, does the vacuum canister on the driver's side under the fender have any use other than when the AC is on? Is there any harm in plugging the vacuum line from the intake to this canister? The AC doesn't work anyway and I'd like to alleviate any question of a vacuum leak.

Bonus question: if I install a Vintage Air system is there any use for the same vacuum canister? The VA instructions indicate disconnecting the vacuum in the driver-side kick panel, but I don't see other references after that.

Thanks,
Kris

Well you can plug the soup can line. But it's going to be easier and more likely cheaper to fix it if you're considering Vintage.

The driver for VA is getting rid of the suitcase, etc. My first 68 didn't have AC and it was just so much more pleasant to work on. The suitcase is also probably driving my perhaps unreasonable aversion to power brakes and power steering. I just don't want anything extra in there. Unless perhaps it's a blower...

When I started going through my Camaro A/C components, I found I was missing that 1 quart baked bean can style canister. I looked around for one and found they were used and expensive. All ads said condition unknown. So I got a Dorman 47076 canister for later model Chevys that I am going to use. I hope it works properly.

Now I see Original Air has the can style listed for $101. Dorman's cost is $12
