Well, back in the shop today working on panel alignment. Hood latch in, most all sheet metal shimmed and fitted, waiting on welding and filling. This is a 67 GM flat hood in really good shape. I got it because the Tiawanese cowl hood fit like crap, but I am beginning to wonder. I gapped it to about 80% and the front and rear peaks meet pretty good but I have another issue. Take a look at the top of each fender in relation to the hood. For about 80-90% of the length of the hood, the hood is up about 1/8". Same on both sides. Same with the non gm hood.
I hate to slice the fenders to get them to mate perfectly, because I don't think that with a ton of blocking, I can make that disappear. Am I asking for too much and have you guys ever ran into this? Solutions anyone? Here is where I am. Gonna finish out around the front of the doors this week , I guess.

Working on adding metal and gapping the drivers fender/door area. Going well, and I thought I would update to show progress and then I will update when final gopping of both sides are done. Not nearly finished but I also dont want too much heat in

that area. Here is a look to give you an idea of how I went about this.

Jumping all over on this one. Had a machinist build me a bracket to use with my shifter. I measured the offset on a hurst 67-69 camaro shifter and drew it out. I couldn't be happier with it. Installed and filled in the tunnel hole where the 3 speed was. It fits really good in the console. It may be 5/16" taller than a factory shifter, but only you guys will know it.

Camaro is undergoing drivers side surgery for a couple of days. I took the fender off to repair the damage to the inner structure from all the slicing. That turned out good.
I also cannot stand the hood fender alignment so I am drilling out spotwelds to lift the fender up to match the hood. Slotting the hinge didn't change one thing.

Well I have all the repairs to the inner structure of the d/s fender made and coated. I have also hammered and dolled all I can to keep filler at a minimum. First coat of filler and a guide coat is where I am at. It actually is looking ok.

Did a little more finessing on the fender. I like everything but the way it aligns with the door top. I will work on that . At some point, I need to move on and call it ok until final bodywork. The cowl panel is loosely sitting there.

Wow small world. I've looked at your build on here before and didn't put 2 and 2 together when you replied to my post on the 67-72 C10 forum. I am the one building the 68 Camaro for my son.

Looking good. What is the plan after panel gapping? Are you going to do a full respray?

I hope you do. Thanks by the way for the kind words. I am not quite a year owning this one as my 71 c10 was still taking up shop space until June. So really, Ive only gotten started. Everything has been a struggle so far, but looking at your progress, you already know all that.

My plan is to work on mine starting sometime next summer/fall. I'm hoping to have my part of the Camaro finished by then. I tore the entire back half of the car off again last night to fit/fix some metal. This car was whacked in the DS rear and that is causing headaches but I think I'm getting past it now.

Good luck on your resto and I'll be following along.

Well, a setback like this may not be a bad thing after all, I came in the house yesterday after jacking the engine up as far as I could, still would not enable me to drill straight enough to extract it. Janice asked me why I was working so hard at it when all I was going to do with this 350, was get the bugs out of the car. So, I think now, I will get it going and run it in tinted primer with all trim and build the SS motor on the stand. Change engine, and then final paint. Then, I will not risk scratching and denting fresh paint. Good to hear your progress. I will post some pics when I get more done.
