The project run down:
It is an early 1969 "Real and verified" Z/28 but factory engine and transmission are long gone.

Everything is being kept OEM as possible...
SBC I built works out to about 538HP
I've been building this SBC as if GM still had the warrenty what engine build would they install today... LOL

Transmission options thus far I have:
1) a M-22 661 case with all NOS OEM gears USA made out of a 1970 LS6 and professionally built.
2) a M-22 660 case professionally restored 69 Z/28
3) a M-21 660 case professionally restored 69 SS
4) various M-20s/M-21s in need of rebuild

Also note, I am installing a Lake-wood scatter sheild for safety required by NHRA and a driveshaft loop TBD.

OR maybe I should consider putting in a Jerico or other for my street strip Z/28.

I really would like to hear what you think....

I would go with a tremic 5 speed. Best of both worlds and can still use the original shifter handle. Talk to Jody at Jody's Transmissions. He can answer any questions and hook you up with whatever you decide.

A tremec tkx would be better for strength and drivability. I’ve blown 2 m21s with only 375 hp at the track. Usually the cases flex and it goes sideways from there. If you want a Muncie add the iron mid plate to reduce case flex and use the auto gear super case. I have an auto gear m22 with the thicker case and iron mid plate and it easily handles 4k clutch drops on mt drag radials. Reach out to Jody at Jody’s transmission he really knows his stuff. Since the original engine and trans are gone, "Real and verified " doesn't mean much at all. I'm a fan of the M22, but your choice now actually depends on your driving style and what you will do behind the wheel.
 
Tremec TKX has exceeded my expectations. Transformative. SST (Tremec distributor) in Tennessee did a great job for me. Good luck whatever you decide. There is an article on building/rebuilding M-22s in the April '23 issue of Hot Rod, fyi only.
 
That Tremec will handle the power. But do all Tremecs shift as stiff as the T56 I had in my 04 GTO? All my manual cars have been Muncie or Richmond/doug Nash, other than one T56. The Richmond shifts stiff like the T56 did. No way I would drag race either one if winning is important. The Muncie with shifter stops set for shortest throw & steel bushed rods & clutch setup right was very smooth & very quick. No need to ever lift the accelerator off the floor even shifting at 8K with my 302s. Big advantage. Richmond has a fix to make it shift smooth if you care to split the case halves. Which I will do if I keep this car. Does the TKX shift as poorly as the T56 or has Tremec improved that?
 
As everyone else stated tkx. I have a tko600 with the Lakewood scattersheild and Ram clutch. I would have gone with the QuickTime bell pushing but could not get it at the time. The over drive is awesome on the street. Fits under my stock console with all factory parts.

another TKX vote here.

@SY1 my TKX shifts good, I was told they can be picky on the set up, need to get the bellhousing centered and parallel to very tight tolerance. I was also told this has to do with the way the TKX is made, bearing placement is different, the front shaft doesn't have play in it like the Muncie. My right arm was taught on a Hurst shifter bolted to a Muncie and it was like butter, that said, no way I would go back to the Muncie now. TKX was truly a game changer for me. My TKX only has a hundred miles on it as of today, clutch is not broken in yet so qualify my opinion based on that.
