I was thinking about swapping 2nd gen mirrors onto my '67, but it sounds like they won't clear the wing windows. Anyone have experience and suggestions?

Looking at your picture, it looks like the chrome mirrors are pretty far back to clear the wind wing opening out. I did the switch on my '69 but I don't have to deal with the wind wings. Still, you might be able to mount them so the base covers the old holes but move the bullets a little further forward... that's what I did. Take a look at my thread Bullet Mirror Adventure and you might get some ideas. Obviously, if you can weld/paint then you can position them wherever they work. There's not a helluva lot of room between the mirror shell and the glass so it could be problematic even if you move them forward. Another alternative might be to use late '90's Buick power mirrors as pictured below. I'll note that to make these mirrors fit, the owner had to add reinforced material to the bottom because they don't nearly match the contour of the 1st Gen doors. I actually bought a set but decided to go with the 2nd Gen bullets. There may be other aerodynamic looking mirrors you could try like the Maverick mirrors in the 3rd picture bc they have a long base.

If you can get the angle correct the small mirror is almost useless with gen 2. Obviously that is in comparison to today's. My 68 round Chevelle mirror is stupid small and the 69 rectangular mirror is much better. I don't remember having any view complaints with my 69 Camaro that also used the rectangular mirror.

I'll do more looking around, are the '69 mirrors square? I had a '69 but I don't remember what mirror (only had driver's side) it had.

Chevy was really strange through the years. Yes 69 only had the rectangle mirror on the driver side (not square) and 70 you could order two sport mirrors but in 71 your could only get the driver side sport mirror so I added the passenger side. You could get power windows in a 69 but not in 71. You couldn't even get twin horns in 71. Ripley's Believe it or not.

I'm all ears for something better than stock. Sorry if I seem a little edged I just want better visiblity.

Yeah I have those days too. These are the best and probably the only passenger side mirror that really lets you see in reverse with it convex glass. Expensive but the best. After market mirrors have also improved so buying from a quality seller will get you a product that should last for a while. My round 68 Chevelle mirror does a terrible job and really doesn't allow for decent positioning. Rectangular is your best bet. My 69 Camaro were decent. My 71 Camaro sports are not IMO.

re Mirrors: I also went with the 90's Buick power. Lots of work but they are stealthy and work excellent. Here's the thread on this forum:

Jethro... Kudos on the Buick mirrors. Did you have any pix of how you built up the Buick base to work with the Camaro door curve? LOL... I have all the parts to do the conversion, totally freaked about removing doors to drill the boot holes. I did drill pilot holes in the dimples and then gave up. Still might do this down the road. Scott's suggestion of using studs in the door hinges was a great one. I'm just not that confident of my R/R abilities with gaps and such.

Glad it worked out John. Amazing that a couple of square inches more in those mirrors makes a difference. Hope they don’t slow that beast down in the quarter! LOL

Makes a HUGE difference, exactly what I needed. Thanks again Mike, and thanks again for the careful packing of the mirrors. You are good people!
