As an option to clear congestion at the rear of the block. You might consider converting to a BB heater core

It moves the hoses over near the inner fender well in stead of behind the head .

I am assuming you might have a SB set-up now. 😜

I bought a copper core one on rockauto. Been in the car for a few years now. No issues. It s about 1/4" thinner than the stock one so I had to bend the stock retaining clip down a little. My understanding is replacements are a little thinner but otherwise present no problems

I removed the inner suitcase for the swap. Outer suitcase remained on firewall. SBC

My $.02 about having a 50+ year old heater core "fixed"....what does not leak after fix can soon follow as the rest of it is still 50+ years old

They re-core them and then pressure test. They do not "fix" them by soldering a leaking spot. I ve had them re-cored by Glen-Ray. I save all my heater core and radiator tanks from cars I part out. We hade a radiator shop at our old bodyshop. Build up the solder on the neck bases.
