If you bought this car in the summer of 2003 the seller has to know what happened to the original tag.

Roger, It is NOT an SS. See above posts.

the car left the factory with the LF7 (327/210) engine and the M35 Powerglide transmission.

Hi Everyone,
I was hoping to get some assistance with trim tag decoding.
This is on a 1967 Camaro Convertible that is being represented as an original SS/RS.
I believe I decoded everything except the "K" in Group 2.
I can't find a K option in Group 2.
Wondering if it's a fake tag.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
thanks
Being represented as...did you buy it?

If I was in your shoes I would get into a very serious discussion with the person you bought the car from and if that person didn’t swap the tag, start tracking it back farther.
I sort of agree. However this is exactly why questions should be asked and information verified BEFORE you buy.

This car was represented to me as an original SS/RS and we agreed on a purchase price.
Thankfully I was able to educate myself on trim tag decoding and realized that it was fake before I paid for it and picked it up so we were able to agree on a lower price. I saved about $30k.
I am 100% sure that the previous 3 owners did not know it was fake.

It’s called information, the post you refer to, is about the VIN and there is no more assurance the VIN is any more original, as the trim tag.
We need a lot more information and pictures to know what the OP actually has.

Yes I would agree.
I assumed the VIN and Trim tag was original. I now know that the Trim tag is fake. Maybe the VIN is fake or not from the car I have too. Maybe someone acquired and put the VIN tag from that car that was for sale on Ebay in 2003 onto my car.
I will take possession of the car on the weekend and will post pics then.
I'm looking forward to seeing the partial VIN by the wipers to see if it matches the VIN tag.

If the hidden VIN does not match the VIN Tag AND Title I strongly suggest you walk from the deal.

Example. Many states, including Nevada where I’ve brought in many out of state cars I’ve purchased the check the hidden VIN against the VIN tag. No match and the car CAN be impounded.

I always cross check before money changes hands.

Roger, I disagree.

There is information about the original tag tied to the VIN mentioned. No reason to think the VIN was swapped.

Yes there was definitely some Trim tag swapping along the way.
I have traced it back to the previous 3 owners and the current trim tag was on the car from at least 2012.
So sometime between 2003 and 2012, someone switched the tag.
Has this car been in Colorado the whole time since 2003?

Honestly if it’s a restomod and you don’t care, the tag really doesn’t matter.

Just verify the partial VINs match the VIN tag and title before purchase.

I am sorry, I didn’t see any pictures of a partial VIN in any of the post. Your buddy keeps posting "WE KNOW" this and that, but he does’t post any link to the information WE KNOW.

If you're in Canada, there is a higher level of acceptance right?
