My pass side visor always wants to flop half way down. It has the proper plastic and rubber piece on each end. The pivot is tightened as far as it will go. Any ideas for a better hold?
IngeniuosTake this for what it's worth, and some here may call me a hack, but this is what I did and it's working great so far. I had leftover pinion gear shims (don't recall the thickness, but i think it was only a few thousandths), and I wrapped it around the shaft inside of the plastic piece. It gave me just enough interference that when I tightened the screws it stays in position.
It is a common problem, do you have a source or link to the sleeves you purchased?^^^ "innovative engineering is what that is.
FWIW I had same issue and got the replacement plastic sleeve kit and put those in. Problem solved.
Confirm visor holder is not cracked from previous over tightening. Replacements are available.
I did the same and they hold pretty tight.I replaced the slotted screws with allen head cap screws because they tighten up better. I think they were 1/4-20.
Careful as I broke my originals and the repops are not as goodI did the same and they hold pretty tight.
I also broke my original left side bracket, with just a flathead screwdriver. My repop has held up pretty good.Careful as I broke my originals and the repops are not as good
Yeah mine too but I am very careful and only tighten a small bit at a time now. It’s with my Chevelle convertible so wind also comes into play. My Camaro holds fine but they are stock.I also broke my original left side bracket, with just a flathead screwdriver. My repop has held up pretty good.
I've always found beer cans to be quite useful for such hacks.Take this for what it's worth, and some here may call me a hack, but this is what I did and it's working great so far. Ok, now I'm pissed I didn't come up with that on my own, lol. I'll file that one away for future use.I've always found beer cans to be quite useful for such hacks.
Thanks for the tip. Heat shrink over the post then insert into plastic retainer did the trick.I had similar problems with my visors, even with new tips. After trying some mechanical fixes, I resorted to internet "fixes" like very lightly sanding the tips then wiping the tips and receiver with alcohol for a clean "grippy" surface, which also didn't work.
The solution I found was heat shrink tubing. I had a whole pack in different sizes and colors, found the one closest in diameter, cut it to length (just a touch long to accommodate for shrink) and applied heat. I did two layers and got a great result. Now they stay in place and only move when I need them to.
