Hi everyone, I'm getting major wheel hop on my 67 Camaro after installing the ridetech street grip kit. I know I don't have staggered shocks and I was also told u can't use traction bars with these composite springs.
When you guys say a "Hard Launch" are we talking about low 60' times with drag radials or slicks at the drag strip or are we talking about leaving a stop light on the gas hard with radials? Also, anyone using any of these competition engineering slide-a-link traction bars with the composite springs? They don't contact the leaf spring but they may not work either. Previous owner put them on the car and I have no idea if they work or not. I only plan to do cruising and some spirited driving. However, I don't want to deal with wheel hop if I spin the wheels leaving a stop light.Ridetech street grip is a ride quality and handling enhancement. Hard launches are not really what it is intended for. Don't go there if that is your goal….
what brand / partnumber / name do these traction bars have? they look interesting! When you guys say a "Hard Launch" are we talking about low 60' times with drag radials or slicks at the drag strip or are we talking about leaving a stop light on the gas hard with radials? Thanks,
Moroso owns Competition Engineering now but here is a link:what brand / partnumber / name do these traction bars have? they look interesting!
I was looking at those and wondering how they could fit up and function without stress loading a composite spring, but couldn't find any good pictures online. I recall many years ago when I was considering them, there were some advantages over Caltracs for street use (with steel springs). Still wouldn't use them for single leaf composite, since they clamp to the spring. If your looking for something that doesn't contact the leaf spring slide-a-link traction bars are not the answer. The front spring eye bushing has to be changed with an aluminum one and then a clamp on the front of the spring creating a stress point...... check this image from the installation instructions.
These would actually clamp on the aluminum section that transitions to composite so the fasteners that bolt those parts together would not allow a flat clamping surface, and even if if you could the stress point would still be be at that transition.I was looking at those and wondering how they could fit up and function without stress loading a composite spring, but couldn't find any good pictures online. I just installed the Ridetech Street Grip kit on my 1969 Z28 and it has wheel hop issues now too. Love the handling but sucks that I can't leave hard in 1st gear with my Tremec TKX 5spd now. Surely there is a traction bar that doesn't attach to the actual spring on one end.Is the wheel hop issues for the 1967 where the rear shocks are on the same side of the axle or is this an issue on a 1969 as well?
Thanks,
Ya I can't even do a burn out without wheel hopI just installed the Ridetech Street Grip kit on my 1969 Z28 and it has wheel hop issues now too.
