You can cheat and burn in the clear at the sailpanel. Not the proper way, but it can be done. You'd be surprised how many brand new cars are on the lot that have been repaired and had panels burned in. Most will be dead before the repair fails, or if it sees enough UV to break down the blended edge. Or they trade their car in.
I was still shooting lacquer on some jobs in the 80's, which is when his car was painted. He does not mention if it is lacquer or if it was cleared or not. Sometimes shops just lightly buffed and shipped them if lacquer and no clear.
It is Ditzler BC/CC. Do not know how many coats of clear which bothers me a little. From a chip, looks like a red Oxide type primer was used. Can't ask Henry, as he has passed. I don't think the invoice gives me that info. I'll look it up tonight. But I know it was Ditzler BC/CC, Color code 30E from 1985, Painted in 88 I think. Still looks good except for the obvious door issue.

Somewhat of an update. All three well recommended PDR guys declined to attempt it. Most body shops won't touch it either. "Boss won't let me". I thin that means "If we can't screw an insurance company, we won't touch it". Got on gave me a written quote while I was speaking with his 85 year old grandfather in the shop who originally started the business. Necessary blending included. They do mostly European cars, Porches, Mercedes, Ferrari's and things they want to work on. I have seen their work for years and believe in them. We will see in a couple of weeks.

So,is this getting fixed,or not?
Yes, getting fixed. Now in the body shop finally. Been out of the loop for a while. Out of retirement has both advantages and disadvantages. regular body guy says " we need a door". 84 year old Grandpa who originally had the shop says "Nope I can fix it." I don't doubt it. We'll see in a couple of weeks. Of course the Carb crapped out on the way from sitting, even after I cleaned it out. Always something.

Well said Steve - Well said. God Bless you & your family Scott.
I did see a video where a guy would hot glue a plastic one liter coke (or your preference) bottle cap on the dent, then screw the plastic bottle onto the cap. Then he would pull on the bottle and it would pull the dent out! Then he heated up the cap and the glue and cap would come right off, with no damage to the paint. Coulda been fake, but looked impressive.
Brett....

Don't they make some nice suction cup dent pullers that would do the same thing?

Oops, my apologies. My old age creeping in again. I was reading this thread and thought I was at the most recent post and it was not. Sorry. Now to reply to Franks post; Yes, I'm sure there is a better way. I was just making comment about what people are showing about different ideas.

Suction cup would not budge it at all. George(Grandpa) didn't tell the whole story but removed the interior door panel and worked the center seam back in place, I guess pulling the rest with it. Paint match and blending looks pretty good. A little touch up around the lower edges where the original painter didn't get enough paint in 1988 and should be good to go. Got new carb, but probably won't make show this weekend. Maybe Bellville the next weekend, we'll see. We'll see about this re-retirement crap also.

Well finally back from shop. found some more issue with the lower rear pan that did not receive enough paint when painted in 1987. All now looks good. They buffed everything. Camera doesn't want to let the pictures out for some unknown reason. I'll work on the carb and camera tomorrow and should be ready to go.

Well, the Bellville show and the Fayetteville shows were both a little lame this year, weather looked iffy, but held off, there were some really nice cars. Again, iphone camera and computer are not speaking to each other so no pics to show. Carb still in the box, maybe tomorrow.

Just an FYI that only costs a little bit, has proven to be a wonderful app in my life. I'm a Windows guy, have been for years, even built both of my computers, and was never a real fan of iPhones. Yet now, thanks to my son, I have one, plus an iPad as well. I actually have come to like them, but still find the lack of coherent file structure very frustrating. So, I went searching and finally found an amazing app, appropriately named 'iMazing' that installs on your Windows PC, and links to your iPhone and makes exchanging files in either direction "amazingly" simple. Works fine, lasts a long time. Just saying...

Just log into the forum on your iPhone and load the pics from your phone. It’s not complicated, no need for a computer.

Yeah Don, but there are thing s I just don't do. My phone is a 5S and has always been wonky. Apple says the phone is fine. HP says the computer is fine, but there is a gap somehwhere in the middle that pisses each of them off and they will not talk to each other. Kind of like when my wife finds out I ordered parts or had a drink. That plus the phone screen is so small I can't see what I am doing.

i dont know at how far you came along with the situation w the door

but have you looked around sourcing out an OEM door ?
i find them time to time in goos shape or better

also if you want to match up w the paint colour as close as possible
they have some body shops that do computerized paint colour matching

am sure they have some in your area , but i would nt know at what they would charge tho , imo

it is fixed and very well. The regular body guy wanted another door but grandpa said he could fix it. And he did. All the paintless guys said no way. I did find a pair of 67 doors for $200 but that doesn't work for 68. He did not want to do a skin. Fine. It looks a lot better than I ever thought. The match and blend on a paint job from 1987-88 in unbelievable though it never spent any real time outside uncovered. They did a real good job as well as all the work they have done over the years. Casari's Paint and Body is very good. They specialize in classics and European cars but can accommodate others. Just need to replace carb and drive.

I assume you have the paid version because the free trial does not seem to do anything for me.

Yes, the issue was important enough to me to warrant shelling out the bucks. I have had a few small issues and those resulted in my contacting their support, with very responsive attention and excellent results, so I would call it an overall satisfactory app. HOWEVER, while their website indicates they work with 5s phones, I suspect they are more concerned with what release you are running than how old your phone is. And I confess that being new to Apple phones (actually quasi-computers), I know little or nothing about an Apple phone that sold somewhere between 2013 and 2016. In smartphone years, that's like my wife's Galaxy s8, and I know she is having me investigate new phones as she fears what prices are about to do thanks to tariff paranoia (tariffnoia?)... Her fear is that her phone might die due to age concerns, and then be ridiculously expensive to replace, which I get.

My principal use of the app is to transfer pictures and music files in either direction from iPhone/iPad to Windows 10 PC. Also, I back up both Apple devices to storage on my PC periodically.

If you are truly interested in iMazing, I would either go ahead and buy it, or contact them about the performance issues of the free version you installed on your PC. All I can say is, in my case, "works fine, lasts a long time."
