Can't tell from you photo... will it slide under the car?

Ratchet strap was useful keeping the trans from moving. Check the placement of the trans on the pad (fore/aft) to see if the jack interferes when mating to the bell housing. If I recall I needed to have the trans a little towards the front rather than centered on the pad. Just strap it down, adjust the height and tilt and roll that sucker right in.
I haven't rolled it out to the car to check yet.

From what I experienced teetering on the floor jack, I may have to hoist it on the trans jack after its under the tunnel....or add more wood blocks under the jack when lifting the chassis for more clearance.

My Bimmer threw a drivetrain malfunction code when I left the store...it's been eating ignition coils lately. I spent the evening replacing the coil and clearing the code instead of focusing on Camaro.

So far, NOTHING has worked as expected. For those of you who indicated this was a simple job, my hats off to you!

While the most of this hasn't been too bad, trying to get this god-forsaken transmission back in has been a fight for the past couple of days.

I bought the transmission lift as mentioned, but I couldn't use the strap and winch because it took up too much room. And even with the car lifted as far as I could manage(without flipping it over), it wouldn't get underneath the car. So I had to drag the trans into position, move the lift close to it, tilt the trans upward, and hoist it onto the lift!

I did get everything centered properly (I think), but I can't get it past the throwout bearing!

This is far as I can get it to move...it acts like there's a concrete wall beyond this point. I had hoped it would slide in at least until I got to the pilot bearing.

Any ideas? I feel like walking away from this, have the car towed elsewhere and let someone else with more intelligence handle this.

My son lives in Austin. He told me the alcohol boils off down there

You're not there yet until it's fully seated in the pilot bearing. Do NOT try to pull it in by tightening the transmission bolts or you risk damaging the bearing.
How will I know? I rotated the case and jiggled some more until it was flush with the bell housing. I tightened the bolts once I aligned the case flanges with the bell housing bolt holes.

I think Vegas wanted to you to be sure because if you put in a new pilot bearing it can bind causing your trans to not slide in all the way (flush).

I should be okay then, because except for the fork and throwout bearing, I left the rest of the internals alone

I'm done for today. Getting too hot outside. All that's left to do is the drive shaft and reconnecting the shifter.

This has taken me two weeks so far! Don't know how you guys performed this repair in one sitting???!

Be sure to also check the fluid level in the trans.... some may have leaked out during the R&R.

With the car fairly level, just remove the fill plug on the passenger side of the trans (red circle) and stick your finger in the hole... the gear lube level should be even with the bottom of the fill plug hole. Fill with the proper gear lube (as needed) until some of the gear lube begins to trickle out of this hole.

Everyone works at their own pace and comfort level based on experience (... and working conditions). The important thing is that you didn't give up and are in the home stretch of completing this repair on your own!

I did buy gear lube along with the moly I used for the throwout bearing and pivot. I won't road test until I check the fluid level

If Manipulated to be inserted flush before torquing the bolt you’re good to good. Congrats

I was able to remove and reinstall my Muncie by myself in an hour. I'm 66, and not a spring chicken anymore. Prior to the removal and reinstall, I made a carrier for it out of pressure treated 2x4's and one base piece of 2x6. Bolted this carrier to the cross member bolt holes of the trans, then rested this on the hydraulic jack and up iy went, and guided it right in.

That's so cool!

It's my wife's birthday today, so I didn't want to spend more time than I needed to on the car. I did start it up and verified that it all works!

It's still up on jackstands so I need to test it under load and listen for any weird noises. It does shift beautifully though.

Got some minor things to do, and that's it for the day!

I will drop it tomorrow and circle around the block to see if it's really fixed!
