I haven't seen the car yet, but my uncle has a 67 RS/SS Camaro with a 396/325 horse original engine. The dash does read 4N and a paint code of – –. So I know it must be some what rare. He also mentioned cruise control to me but that seems like it must be an aftermarket item do you think. I haven't seen the car yet but it has power windows, door locks. Could it have cruise at all, maybe a dealer installed item or something.

Thanks, Erik

Yes the dealer intalled the cruise control.
A31 would be the code for the power windows/and locks/factory installed.
cowl tag should read
X2..3L...4N
5....
sounds like your uncle might become your favorite uncle

Cruise is a dealer installed item.
No Power locks in any first Generation Camaro.
Power windows will be coded on the trim tag.
- - is not the correct code for special paint on a 67 Camaro. Should be 0-0. The dash codes were used in 68 and 69 Camaros.

See if you can get the full trim tag info.

I talked to my uncle again and he swears by the – – paint code on his trim tag. Thats one of the reasons he purchased the car. As far as power door locks, I was wrong, i assume power door locks and windows go hand in hand, my fualt there. Both books I have have cruise control as RPO K30 from the factory, so i guess it is GM option if they have a code on the build sheet for it.

Just wondering how rare it is.

Erik

Cruise control was an option in 67, just not on a Camaro. All GM lines use the same RPO codes, but each line only has a certain group of these RPO's available.

As far as rareity or value, it depends on if it's real. After the 69 Z28, the 67 Big block is the next favorite car to clone. Tons of fake L35 and L78 trim tags out there. No big of any kind made before January of 67 so if it's earlier than that you know right off the bat it's not real. Most (not all) big blocks are April or later, as it took a while for people to figure out they were available and start ordering them. Have to see an image of the trim tag and know what the VIN is to make any kind of opinion on originality.

Let's assume it is an original big block, in that case it's rare just by being a big block. Only 4000 out of 220,000 Camaros built in 67 were L35's. 1400 of those were Autos, the rest had manual transmissions. Every (factory installed)option adds to it's rarity. Is it a 4 speed or Auto? Standard or deluxe interior, does it have power brakes, guages, etc. Does it have a radius rod on the rear axle?

Sounds to me like his car is somewhat a rare car. I am trying to get photosd of the trim tag. he doesn't have email and he lives 2 hours away. He said the car needs restored but has everything except carb and distributor. I ran the numbers on the block, heads and rear end last year and everything comes up correct. I will get more info.
