In the final assembly phase of my '67, go to put the trunk lock cylinder in and when in, the key slot is rotated about 90 degrees....??? I'll upload a photo shortly
The key slot is normally vertical, and since there's only one way the cylinder fits in the lock opening it seems the (repro/replacement) cylinder is wrong and it doesn't appear there's an easy way to take the lock cylinder apart to 'rotate' it and get it right.

I've never had an issue with this, ...anyone else ever come across this?

Garth,
Thanks! for the link, ...never heard this one before.

For the record, my car is an early build '67 (Oct. '66), and this is the original rear panel.

Ironically I was comparing to my survivor '67 coupe, ...which turns out to be the same since it's also an Oct. '66 build. But something doesn't add up when looking at the drawing from the other thread comparing the two layouts. Mine seems to match the one on the right, ...but neither of the tailpanels have ever been changed on either of the cars. (?)
Can someone verify this drawing is labelled correctly?

I never really paid much attention to the alignment slots on these locks. Is '68 the same as the '67?
The net here is I need to figure out what lock cylinder to get that will be oriented correctly since my car is in final paint...

Thanks,

Kevin

67 and 68 used same/similar lock sets and key and keyways, while 69 was the change over to the GM Corporate lock sets and square keys ignition and door keys.

You can use a 68 or a 69 lock set in that trunk panel. Or a locksmith may be able to re-orient the 67 cylinder you already have to give you the right look - if you can find one these days. Or you can file down the panel ring to have the correct channels for the 67 lockset you have.

I ended up ordering another lockset (for a '68).
I am/was a bit puzzled since with an 11/66 build date I would say my car is an "early build". I guess the "Type-1" for early '67's must be prior to Nov' '66 then.

Kevin, I found that image from the on-line catalog from Classic Muscle. Now, like everything they have improved their site and I can't find it. Here is a link to their site if you want to ask any questions. I have a hard copy catalog too if you would want me to scan that page for you.

I also found a Special Note in my latest Ricks catalog that said.
Some late production 1967 and all 67's with GM or reproduction replacement tail-pans installed must use 68 trunk lock assemblies to avoid a sideways key.

And I always take mid run changes with a grain of salt since we have all seen factory items before dates state they would exist or dates after they said they would not. Add 67 locks to that list.
