Release belt tension,
Remove the fan/clutch from the water pump flange,
Lay fan/clutch assembly on the bench with the clutch on the bottom,
Remove four nuts holding the fan onto the clutch,
Lift off the fan, replace nuts onto clutch so they don't get lost.
Half-inch wrench/socket.

you can use a screwdriver wedged between 2 of the studs or bolts that hold the clutch to the water pump to allow you to loosen the nuts or bolts if there isn't a belt on it...

Sure. At speeds over 35 (might be a bit higher or lower, can't remember) you don't need the fan anymore. Airflow thru grill and then radiator is enough to get the job done. By having a clutch that lets the fan freewheel at this speed or above, you are saving drag on the engine thus freeing up horsepower.

On some models, there is a bimetal spring, similar to the spring on the choke.
The spring heats up, expands, turns a valve inside directing fluid to the stator inside and fan 'locks' up with the hub.

You can hear a fan locking up, you'll know it.
Best check is in the AM when cold, fan will lock up for about fifteen to thirty seconds, then release, its quiet.
