No sir, there is no comparison from Chicks incredible Z/28 to my old beater. I was just going back through & re reading his thread and realized I was basically in the same stage now, as he was back then when he posted his pics and thought it was kind of cool. :)

As for the antenna, my car was a rear antenna car & never came with the spoiler from the factory, but it was on it when I bought it in 1980 and I always liked it so it will stay. I always just pushed the antenna over to the side when opening the trunk.

Thank you John & sorry Chick, didnt mean to hijack your thread. :beers:
No problem and great to see your butternut machine. Have fun!

Hey Chick what finish do you have on your intake. It does not have that freshly glass beaded look I am used to seeing. Looks to duplicate you correct looking finish.
I had Jerry do the re-finish thing he calls "re-skinning" which I'm assuming is a type of vibratory deburr. It's the best process I'm aware of to obtain the best original aluminum look. Had the distributor, intake, bell housing, and trans cases all done by Jerry and extremely pleased. Hope that helps!
Check out page 14 for bluing the center link (ref to your question on the CRG).

Some updates: Many of us purchase those distributor vacumn hose kits and as noted previously the short black piece with the white stripe is incorrect. I had my original and placed pics in this thread but recently I realized that short piece from the carb to the steel vac. line is the exact same type of ribbed rubber used for the washer bottle. Instead to using that incorrect piece in the kit which I see on many restored cars cut yourself a piece of that original washer bottle ribbed hose which is fairly easy to find.
Examples of what I'm referring to.

Our 68 utilized a PF-29, not a PF-25 as I previously incorrectly communicated so the PF-25 that is on the engine comes off. We are also working to change some NOS PF-29's I have to be a black & white version which could be interesting and more to come on that later.

Back some time ago I noticed our rear license plate light/lamp was different than the NOS (service replacement) light fixtures advertised or the one NOS light fixture we had. The lens was the same with the SAE L64 and part number but the metal fixture was much different in size and overall shape. Not sure but assume something changed from 68 to 69 model years. ????? Here is an attempt to show differences beginning with a picture of our original after cleaning and re-plating vs. the NOS service replacement we have.
Top Lamp-our 68 original
Bottom Lamp-NOS (later service replacement)
Note the two rubber type push in plugs. Original is on left (gray in color) vs. the right sided black service replacement plug. Repro's utilize black plug as well with a wrong color wire. Original and service replacements have black wire leads.
I did utilize the NOS (service replacement) plastic lens to restore our original. Same SAE L64 and part number as previously mentioned! I do notice on ebay later clear lenses advertised but SAE is L66. Did not check but believe those are still available by the amount of them on ebay continuously for sale.

Orig to left, NOS one on right-Big difference in configuration

Close up of lamp. Repro's have the SAE L64 but not the part # embossed.

A Repro! Not a bad part considering how much you see of it and the price of some of the NOS ones sold on ebay.

Examples of alum work:

Hey Chick, the aluminum has a bit of a light polished look. I am going to try to duplicate it. I love that it does not have the glass beaded look. I glass beaded mine, but I found it too white looking compared to original. I also found that after glass beading the intake would get dirty really easy and was also hard to clean afterwards.

I purchased an original Y55 battery in the early 80's (was a lot of money even then) but the warranty tag had years 1977 to 1980 listed. I wanted to fix this and started to search for anyone who makes these labels. Luckily I found this guy named Tom who reproduced warranty stickers for R59 and many other batteries but not Y55. I inquired and Tom communicated back that he'd never been asked to do a Y55 but had been wanting to complete at sometime. Well within a few weeks I had my Y55 stickers. This tag will look great on our original Y55 battery and assists with great detail! If anyone is interested in obtaining one of these tags they are $16 plus $1 shipping. Contact Tom at mc71454@hotmail.com Like us Tom is a car guy and has some COOL machines.

The repro warranty label/sticker Tom made for our application with a Jan./68 build.

Thanks Darrell!

Well its been too long with any updates but I guess I do have some excuses that many would appreciate like purchasing our 69 L78 nova back that I ordered and purchased new in April, 69, sold in 83 with 24K miles (took off the road in 1972) and then bought back end of June with 31K miles. Still original paint, motor & drive-train. Even all the paperwork like the order form, BOS, POP, last license registration, last 72 PA tag, etc. all came back to me. Car was in NY, MA, back to PA, OH, and now back home again in PA to stay. One of several reasons that have kept me from working on the 68Z.
Back in the late 70's at York US30...... Amazing, never broke a thing!

And today!

OK, some updates on the Z/28!
I recently found a-arm shims that measure the same as my originals. I will glass bead the new ones and phosphate them to match what I have found on originals. Specialities Products Company!
One of my originals overlaying on their catalog picture & dimensions.

The nice shiny zinc pieces beside some of my originals. Again, will glass bead and phosphate the new ones. Shims are 1/16" and 1/8" in thickness.

The warranty label was not used on battery's from the factory. This picture is courtesy of Jerry MacNeish that clearly shows how they looked from the factory.

Chick,
The Nova is waaaaaaay above 'too cool'
My first car was a $200 68 Nova, runner, kinda. This was 77-84ish. Wish I could find her
Thanks George and yes, quite unbelievable especially when you know I had not seen or followed the car for 29 years and saw it on display at Carlisle's GM Nationals last year and then at this years event I received a phone call asking if I was interested in buying it back. Amazing story I think especially with all the paperwork and originality.

Working on getting my original PF-29 oil filters looking the part of how they looked from the factory. A great car friend made me up some decals so I could change certain characters and the AC logo to black.
Found a really close Krylon spray paint to the original color with Krylon's "Glossy White", #1501. Originals to right, re-painted to left

Do you know when the writing on the bottom of the filter that was stamped in was used and/or discontinued? I have several of those types but no PF29s.. Ill post up pictures later if needed.

BTW super clean Nova..
Darrell, as far as I know the early PF-25 used in 1969 model year had the embossed writing on the bottom which I pictured in a much earlier post on this thread as I have one and believe early 70 cars had them as well but from what I have checked it was only used for a short period of time before changing over to a smooth bottom. Talking to a 70-72 corvette NCRS judge it would be normal to mostly see smooth bottom filters. I'm not aware or have seen any PF-29's with the embossed writing on the bottom.
Thanks for the compliment on the Nova:thumbsup:

The decals are super easy to use as they have three layers! Take the one layer off to expose the sticky portion to place on the original PF-29 filter repainted all white, and then peel off the top layer which leaves the middle layer adhered to the oil filter which exposes only the areas to be painted black. The originals I have looked at (only three) were very simplistic with no writing on the back side or the stripes.
Have three to do but here was my first one.
