G'day guys I'm a first time user I have a 68 Camaro I'm restoring just curious to know what the difference is with a 327 from factory one has 210 hp and another puts out 275 hp is the difference just the carbys? 2 barrel compared to 4 barrel?

The cam is the same in both engines. The main difference is better (double hump) heads for improved breathing and higher compression, and the 4 barrel carb and intake.

The double hump heads provided smaller chambers(higher compression) and larger valves(1.94 intake vs. 1.72). I have measured my original 275hp '462' heads to have 155cc intake runners. I have not measured any 210hp heads but suspect they could be even smaller.

Most 210's had single exhaust and I would think most people who sprung for the 275hp would be inclined to select the dual exhaust. So it makes me wonder if the factory rating of 275hp assumed dual exhaust.

I also believe the 327/300 in the Corvette used the same 1.94 double hump heads and cam but a different cast iron intake and a carter carb. They used different exhaust(dual, rams horn) so this suggests a lot can be gained with better heads, intake and exhaust.

The heads contribute the largest amount to the package. I have put a 4 barrel intake and carb on a 327/210 and gained very little other than a better looking engine.:)

wrong on both statements:( oh well that's what happens when you get old
in 1965 Chevrolet did make a 375 HP fuelie 327, then dropped it to 350 HP in66
Kevin, Chevy did make a 365 horse version (L76) for Vettes. I've heard a few made their way into a handfull of Chevelles as well. Best engine Chevy ever made. ;)
