Hey guys I have a 68 that I have an 8 1/2" 10 bolt in it and I have been reading about the pros & cons of modifying a 65 -70 Impala 12 bolt to fit my Camaro. Is there any other 12 bolts that can be modified to fit my car. Thanks Camaro BOB

The cost of buying a 12-bolt and paying someone to modify it is going to be just about the same as finding a direct fit from a 1st gen Camaro/Firebird or 3rd gen Nova... If you can do the work yourself it might be another story. There are lots of choices, Chevelle and just about any other 12-bolt can all be cut up and modified to fit in a 1st gen.

For the benifit of the OP those are all the 8.5 ten bolt and they are pretty stout and a good value for what they cost.
From '68 - '71 the Nova could have had a 12-bolt or the 8.2" 10-bolt. I don't know for a fact but would think the Omega, Ventura and Apollo may have had the 12-bolt available too those years. In '72-'75 the 8.5" 10 bolt was all that was available in the Nova.

If you notice the OP says he already has the 8.5 10 bolt. Someone must have already done that swap.

My question is, do you need something stronger than the 8.5? This rear end can be built very strong with the right parts.

The Impala 12 bolt can be built for about the same price as an original Camaro 12 bolt. The core is where the price difference is. The Impala 12 bolt is usually a few hundred dollars cheaper than the Camaro core, so after spending a few hundred getting the Impala 12 bolt narrowed with the correct housing ends you will have just about the same amount of money in it.

12 bolt in mine came from a 68 Nova.
Just looked at the Nova codes and looks like 68-71 "could have" a 12 bolt....not to 74 like I thought it said
