Hi, my 67 Cararo is in bad need of a Front end kit. I was looking at the PST kits, even at $300 USD I am afraid the duties and taxes will be insane. Has any one order the kit from them that lives here in Canada.

Or is there a place I can buy it locally. I am in Toronto.

Thanks in advance.

Mark.

Thanks for the feedback.

Davidpozzi, I took a look at your web site. A lot of good reading. I did not actually see any parts list for the front end. I saw a lot of information on the spring setup, which was great. I guess the approach I should use based on the feedback is to either bite the bullet and order PST or make a shopping list and buy seperate. Only issue I have here is from where. Being a novice it is difficult for me to actually decide what I need. I am assuing all parts in the front end minus the spindals and control arms.

Guys, feel free to "suggest" a shopping list. Car is a convirtable with small block. Summer week end car so the setup is for cruising.

Thanks.

m.

-------------------shopping list--------------------------

front end suspension rebuild normally will require:
2 upper ball joint
2 lower ball joint
upper control arm bushings (pair)
lower control arm bushings (pair)
sway bar to frame bushings (pair)
sway bar end link kits (pair)

also a pair of new bump stops is always nice.
--------------------------------------------------------------
steering parts basics:
idler arm
pitman arm (or centerlink, depending on your setup)
2 inner tie rods
2 outer tie rods
2 adjusting sleeves
ragjoint (steering coupler)

Ohcscott,

Thanks for the shopping list. In PST catalog they talk about a Stabilizer Links. Is this the what the control arm bushing are for.

Does it make sence at this time to also replace the spings? I would assume so.

Thanks.

Hey Mark, goto any Canadain Tire, or parts pro place and order balljoints tie rods, etc.. made by MOOG, CAnadian tire wont have it in stock, so they'll order it for you, and they have a great return policy.. and for the bushings you can get them at Performance Improvements, or order them off ebay, no big deal...

Hey Mark, believe it or not, but even Walmart at Square One, the one I goto has tons of stuff, but it all has to be ordered, and takes a week, but you'll get it, just make sure its of good-quality

guess i'm a little late.
Mark, the stabilizer links are the sway bar end links, in case your question was unanswered.

stabilizer=sway bar=stabilizer bar=anti-sway bar

i guess stabilizer or anti-sway are the most correct terms. i just call it a sway bar.

the lower control arm bushings are a different animal.

some people call the control arms (upper and/or lower) an "A" arm. so if someone says "A-arm bushings", chances are they're talking about the control arm bushies.
some people call a centerlink a drag link, even though they are two different animals.
then you got your radius rods, radius arms, and strut rods....(all are different, but the names get tossed about)
just depends on who you hang out with.
dont even get me started on Direct Ignition Systems (DIS)

Just another thought on Canadian Tire... They do list most of the suspension pieces, e-brake cables etc. NAPA stores do as well. Canadian Tire's performance catalogue is the Keystone book, they're resellers and it lists everything you'd need including Hotchkiss.

Wow, you guys make it seem so easy!

I challenge any one of you to come with me to Canadian tire to strut your stuff!!! Just kidding. Although I am avialable this Saturday for shopping! Beer would be on me.

The more I read the more I am confused. I took a look at my front end and all the rubber bushing are hard and cracked, good sign they need to be replaced. I did the search on the subject and to be honest when I do go to get the parts I am afraid I will be over sold. Probably come out of the store with every thing including a fresh air tree for my rear view mirror. Counter guys is going to say " yup another sucker"

I think I know what I want but do not know the techical terms or the variations that wook IE which springs are the best for my car ect...

Can one of you kind guys give me a short list with options and explain why? Pictures are cool too.

Car is a 1967 Convertible, was a 6 cyl. now a 350. Steering is power but very loose.

Thanks again, also I am not afraid to read just don't want to make a mistake.

Thanks,

Mark.

Mark,it kind of sounds to me so far you will probably end up replacing most of it if not all suspension components. If doing it youreself I recommend using a AIM book or shop manual and a 2-10 ton press for the ball joints and bushings,or pull the a-arms off youreself and send them in to be done for you.I am almost done my front re-build minus springs, and will probably end up using davids part numbers. As far as prices are concerned pick up the yellow pages and call.. say bobjones auto parts, canadian tire,UAP/NAPA, and battery supply, you are going to find a big difference in prices from one place to another, as I am finding just the springs are verying from $110.00 CDN to $189.00CND, so it pays to shop around! Any good parts counter guy should be able to help you thru what part is what, and what is this and that for. Check out my sig for pics on the front suspension.I would take you up on that beer if I was an hour closer!

What are your goals for handling? Do you want the car to handle better than stock?
If so, there are some options you should consider.

You can upgrade your control arm bushings to polly material or go to delrin bushings to better hold the wheels in proper alignment.

Solid subframe to body bushings are recomended. Stock bushings are rubber and usually rotted. Solid bushings help tie the Unibody and subframe together and make it more solid.

Front end parts have been mentioned, tie rod ends, idler arm, pitman arm, balljoints, don't forget the wheel bearings too.

Consider getting tubular upper control arms which will come with upper balljoints and bushings installed allready. These improve suspension geometry for better handling.

Stiffer springs, select from Moog, Global West, Hotchkis, Eibach, or get racing springs like Hyperco, AFCO or others.

Sway bars or antiroll bars, a larger front bar will help handling a LOT! 1" solid works.

Rear Springs like Hotchkis or GW work well.

Wider wheels and tires.

disc brakes if you don't allready have them.

check steering box for play, it can be adjusted or rebuilt.

eh Mark, email me, and we can talk about this further, I'm in Toronto as well, but like David stated you need to first make a decision on what you want to do with the car and its suspension, you can spend thousands on the front end, it all depends on your goals and your wallet
Image

another thing, I suggest that if you want to do all the work yourself, then goto Princess Auto, and buy a cheap spring tool, etc.. or you can even rent the stuff from Canadian tire, I'm not a fan of canadian tire, most of the guys working there dont know sh--, just go there and get your parts, whatever you decide you need, and make sure its good quality.. MOOG, last thing you want to do is install cheap stuff only to have to change it over again...

Amazing feedback, thanks.

sorry it took so long to reply...vacation and then computer issues.

My goals are to make the care Safe, handle well and safe. It is a weekend driver and fare from a mint car. By the sounds of what I am reading here and in general it is a big job. I wish I had a digital camera I would post picture so what I am dealing with.

I will collect the parts them make a dscision as to what piece I can replace.

Thanks,

Do you guys ever get togher for cruise nights in GTA?

Mark.
