Re: NICB reports Available in April 2014?

I am #'s 126 & 133. Now they have posted the following on the website:

We are missing the following data:
1969 Camaro 9N508855 to 9N587275
1970 Chevelle made in Atlanta, Seventh digit would be A.

One of my Camaros falls within that range. Does that mean I am out of luck?
For now but maybe not forever Matt.

Basically Sept 1968 through Jan 1969 production from Norwood are not in the batch of microfiche they converted. As I understand it the Shipping records archives they have been converting were in sad shape as they had been ignored for a long time as NCRS committed to go back through and try to convert the almost 7 million Camaros, Nova's and Chevelles built in the time period they have shippers records for it became apparent that gaps and damaged microfiche would be encountered. Early documentation on the conversion process stated so.

The NCRS already provides shipment data, document validation and car award confirmation services for 1965 to 1972 Corvette models (with membership in the NCRS), and now it says it will attempt to offer shipping records for 1965 to 1972 Chevelles, Novas, and Camaros as well. The service is expected to be available before the end of 2014 and the cost to provide documentation for a single vehicle will be $50. Although most of the microfiche shipping data was found to be complete, not all of the old records are completely readable and some have been damaged. In those instances, the NCRS will refund the applicant’s money.
One can only hope that once the bulk of usable records were input to the system that the data conversion team went back and is taking a second look at the damaged archives and attempting to recover as much data from each sheet of film they can.

As to the long missing build data production records, Terry Michaelis, president of Pro Team Corvette, still has a one million dollar standing offer to anyone who is in possession of any of the original GM build production records for Chevrolet in paper or microfiche form. We all know somewhere in Detroit some retired GM employee has squirreled away the mother-lode of productions from Chevrolet's muscle car hay-day. It is clearly a shame that NCIB destroyed all the paper records it possessed at one time as they were a direct copy of the original production and shippers records for most vehicles or one or the other for the rest in this time period.

I would keep hitting the website and see if they add any records as the process moves forward.

Re: NICB reports Available in April 2014?

Hopefully no issues with the Van Nuys cars.
None so far. The website only lists Norwood VINs in that one block as being an issue.

I am curious as to why if in pre live press releases they said that there was missing data, why that block of Norwood VIN's was not posted front and center when the page went live? Better yet program the system to reject requests from vins not on the system so you can spare the owners from false hopes just to get a refund in 24 hours. JMHO

Re: NICB reports Available in April 2014?

#266 here.
Just doing it for fun.
I just ordered yesterday and my # is 545.

I have the original invoice but my car was a Jan 67 build and I didn't buy it until Sept. I may be surprised where it was delivered.

Because the data is missing right now does not mean it will be missing in the future, if we find it the statment will be taken down. The statement shouold have been on the page from the beginning. it wasn't, it is now, when we process the orders we will issue a refund for those with no data, for the time being it will include the 69 Norwood range listed and the entire Atlanta 70 Chevelle prodcution.

Thanks Roy for the update. We all appreciate the time and effort put into the project.

Re: NICB reports Available in April 2014?

Roy, thanks. My NOR Camaro is in that range and I guess I will be refunded :( If you do find the data, please let everyone here and yenko.net know, so we can resubmit the request. thanks!

Re: NICB reports Available in April 2014?

I'm #137.

I think that makes my report more valuable than Jennifer's report #138.
Brent, my order was #168 but since #137 is lower it has to be more valuable. :)

Can't wait to see some of these arrive and hear the stories of things that come from them, even if there are just a few of them.

I just received an email that my report has been mailed! Thank you Roy and others for this service. For the first time in 30 years of owning this car, I should know where it got its start.

Also got confirmation email that report #39 on my car has been mailed; looking forward to reading contents, but have to wait for international mail :clonk:
But not hard waiting a few more days, it is 45 year old data after all!

I have been reading this thread and got to thinking....wouldn't it be interesting if there could be a database compiled with the owners name/email that ordered these documents as tied to the VIN? I know that most of us have our cars in the CRG database......but now they could tie the last know owner to these shipping document. Just a little more info for down the road. I know some people are very private about their info...so there would need to be some safe guards...Maybe providing the info to the CRG for those cars not registered?
