So a while back I had a dead battery. Dead dead dead. So I got a new battery. Used an external jump-start style charger to fire up the Camaro, backed her out into the driveway, swapped the battery. Started her up again, drove her into the garage, mission accomplished.

Fast forward to more recently, a few weeks later. Something has gone nuts. First off, there is no sign of power. The inside headlamp doesnt light up. When I try and put a Battery Tender (slow charger) on it, it tells me "AC Power Applied, Battery Not Connected Properly".

When I try the same external charger I used in the first paragraph, it acts like nothing happens. If I connect it to my truck, it lights up a green light and says charging. When connected to the Camaro... well it might as well be attached to a bag of dirt. It acts like it is disconnected, no light or anything.

I dont see anything wrong with my setup. The positive cable is attached to the positive battery post, the negative to the negative. But it is acting like there is no battery at all.

Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks

Many new battery chargers won't charge a completely dead battery. Hook some jumper cables from another charged battery in parallel with your dead battery and then put your charger on. Leave the charged battery connected long enough to put a minimal charge into the dead battery, then it should charge normally.

Works every time, good tip.

Disconnect the cables and try to charge it. If it charges there is a problem with the car and probably why the new battery went dead sitting for a few weeks. If it still doesn't charge try the jumper cables as suggested...
