I have a pair of Tom's cast headers, they are great nice fit,but kinda heavy.I looked at the Clifford tube headers but the price was a bit high.Still way better than the stock single hole. And with magnaflows they sound ok I guess(I don't hear it from the outside of the car)Will be following this till the end!:)

Muffler(s) will be my next purchase. Do you happen to have a clip of the sound and model number? Some mufflers sound like crap with the 6's but others sound sublime. I'm trying to find a reasonably priced sublime sound. Nothing tinny nor raspy. Just burbly and reasonably loud.

I think I have the 13215 magnaflow XL 3 chamber 2.25 in and out with X pipe.I have a clip but am having trouble getting it on here(me being a little slow today) I have the clip on youtube .I think it sounds a little raspy.
Unfortunately I went and ordered a Flowmaster Series 10 before seeing this.

Saw this video of a (GASP!) Ford straight 6 with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkDWWaBt8R0

Had to try it.

I also bought a universal Y-pipe. I saw someone else who went from the split header (same as mine) into the 2.5x2.5 universal Y-pipe back to the muffler and over the rear axle. Worked well. With that, a Clifford intake, 650 4bbl, lump ports, and a cam put out 285 hp at the wheels. I figure the 2.5" single exhaust can't be that restrictive then.

Looks like I have a weekend project assuming the muffler and Y-pipe come in... The rest I can get locally. I might have to make up something to go over the axle or I might opt to just go out in front of the rear wheel tucked in. It will be loud but hopefully it'll sound good.

I think mine sounds more normal I guess. I went with the full duals all the way back. The 230 cid runs like it doubled the power! I still need to get a 500cfm and a new manifold ,but the weber from Tom worked sweet for the stock manifold(for now anyway). Good luck:)

Tore into it and I don't see how the long tube headers are going to work. They hit both the power steering pump and box and hang 6" too low. So I'm returning them...

I ordered Langdon's CI split headers instead. Still going with the same plan: Y-pipe them together and back using a single 2.5" pipe into a Flowmaster muffler, over the axle and out like stock.

I'm going to try it without doing the heat plate but if I need to I can do it using thick sheetmetal I have laying around.

I ran at first with the heat plate and when I would get off the freeway the manifold would freeze up and stall the engine! Not that I know anything.

i'm making a heat plate myself. it's not tough...

Finally got the Langdon cast split headers in. I ceramic coated them before installing. Had to do a couple of modifications to get everything to fit: had to notch one of the flanges 1/4" to fit the temp sensor, and trimmed two of the intake flanges to clear the header flanges. Nothing too bad.

repainted that side of the engine while everything was off. Also repainted all the brackets, polished my chrome alternator, and generally cleaned things up.

i'm now deaf. Open headers on even a 6 sounds loud and mean! Gonna be really fun driving to the exhaust shop!

i'll post video and pics tomorrow.

Flowmaster 10 is in the box waiting for me to find an exhaust shop. I'm going to go with a cheap exhaust because I plan on yanking literally everything I'm doing on this round in about a year and adding a snail to my engine bay. The more I look at things the more I realize I should go with a turbo system. They make a nifty exhaust manifold for turbo chargers for these things and though it's pricey it's the way I'll go to make it easier to install.

The plan is this: Get the exhaust put on, drive it like I stole it for a bit, next month get a 4bbl and a Clifford intake, drive it like I stole it some more, and in January pull the head (possibly the whole engine depending on what I find), get oversized valves put in, port and polish, remove .030" to up the compression a bit, lump ports and put in a cam. At that point I'm going to drive it like I stole it some more.

The following winter it'll go under the knife again for the turbo charger, Fast EFI (my original plan won't work due to the intake valve configuration), an O2 sensor to make sure I don't blowed it up real goo', and drive it like I stole it.

At some point I'll have to pull out the rear end gears and put in a posi system. Also forged pistons and rods. Crank and bearings are good for 700 hp on the stock engine according to the guys in Brazil. I don't plan on getting anywhere near that! I'm sure I'll be upgrading other things along the line as well. Maybe a TH350 or 400.

...but forget all that for now and listen to this:

The Langdon headers cleared pretty well. Not many real issues once I got into it. Had to trim some stuff but nothing that affects flow or durability. Overall I'm quite happy with it.

I'll know if I added any power hopefully tonight.

I'm shooting for the 400rwhp range when I'm done. I'd like to have a streetable and reliable 11 or 12 second car. Way cool with the inline 6 as well. It would make my day to pull up to the line with the 250 badge on the side and smoke a couple of 350's. Heck it might be able to do that this spring!

Looking Good! I bet on the drive home from muffler shop.your going to say "Needs More Carb" !:D And soon! Just Teasing...Looks GREAT!
...needs more money first. :p

I'm paying as a go on this one. No stealing from savings or running up debt. Lil' bit at a time.

From what I've read and heard the headers should add 20+ hp.

Made a big diff. on mine ,But I did a weber first. I am looking forward to the 4bbl add on as I am going to do it too. are you going 390 or 500? I have had great luck with Holley so that will be my direction. And with the Cliffords manifold no plate needed (built in) So I am watching very closely to see witch way you go! Only the best of Luck to you!:)

Pretty dang cool

What's the rpm range?

I would look at an OD tranny. 200 r4 or 700 r4 you can get a lower 1st and go lower in the rear so it will pull hard but still do great at freeway speed. :beers:

That's next summer's job... Haven't thought that one out just yet.

RPM range will depend on a lot of things: carb, intake, cam... you know the drill. These sixes like it low though. Lots of low-end torque.

For now she sounds awesome. Big grin when she fired right up! Only had two leaks at start up: Forgot to tighten one of the power steering lines and needed to replace the clamp on the fuel line. Both were 5 minute fixes. Funny how fast it came together once everything was painted and ready. Install was done in about 3 hours and that included me pulling the radiator to get one of the alternator bracket bolts in.

Don't know what carb yet. Haven't crossed that bridge. Probably 390 since I'll be removing it when I go big in a year.
