A lot of us have had experience doing that. Are you trying to section it in, or trying to replace 100% of it. Either way can be explained. We love to see pictures here so we can better assess how we can be of assistance to the needs of your particular situation. No two are alike, very similar, but not alike.

Here is a pic
Well, i see you have your work cut out for you there. Are you going to be replacing any of the underneath metal in that area as well? If so, you will obviously need to do that prior to installation of the a-pillar. That being said, you are going to need to be able to mock stuff up as you go along throughout the installation. IE put the door back on, so you can get an angle reference off of the glass or vent window frame if it is a 67. If i were doing it, i would build myself a rudimentary jig to locate based off of the dash, existing a-pillar, and adjacent a-pillar. That way you can set forward location, and side to side. You can do it pretty easily with a couple pieces of plate, and some bar stock.

The photos below might give you some ideas how to brace the a pillar.
The bottom fender captive nut on the a pillar will give you a bottom alignment point.

There are some captive nuts on the top of the cowl panel that can be used to locate the new cowl panel.
