Fellows I have a guy wanting to sell me a 350LT1 he says is out of a 95 or 96 camaro, says it has, I think 250 or 275 HP.He has the harness ,computer and all. Everything is ready to sit it in for $800.00. Does this sound ok, it also has 57000 miles on it, it,s already out of the car.He says I can change the chip in the computer to get more HP, if so how much more and what is the cost of the chip? One more thing can you put a fuel pump on the chassis or will it have to go in the tank? THANKS!!!!!!!!!!

IF what he has told you is true, I think that is a good price given the fact that the computer/harness and all is with the deal. I assume that the accesories such as PS pump, A/C compressor etc are on the engine.

About the only problem with these engines is the "Opti-spark" which replaces the distributor. If the engine is a 95-96 is should have the updated system. Early "opti-sparks" were prone to water damage.

If it is a 96 you will need to get a 95 or earlier computer to make it easier to run as the 96 is OBDII which makes that computer pretty much useless for a conversion. Just use 95 or earlier computer. You can rework the stock harness or buy an aftermarket harness which is much easier and much more expensive.

You can use a PROPER frame mount or tank mount pump. You must have a return line.

MAKE ABSOLUTELY SURE that this engine is a 350 (5.7 liter) Camaro engine. The 4.3 liter "Baby" Lt-1 engine LOOKS exactly the same. It came in passenger cars. A lot of people have purchased an engine as a 350 (5.7 liter) only to find out it was a 4.3 liter engine later.

These engines run fine STOCK! I have 2 sitting in shop for future projects.

if it has aluminum heads, it is a 350 out of a Vette or F body.
if it has cast iron heads, it is out of a B body (Caprice, Impala SS, etc.) and could either be a 350 or 262. the 350 has "327" cast into the side of the block, and says "5.7L" on top of the bellhousing. the 262 says "4.3L" on the bellhousing.
as for using the stock harness, it might be easier and cleaner to get an aftermarket harnes for a few hundred $$$.
as for "swapping in a different chip", well, that won't happen unless it's a 93- starting in 94, they got a newer style computer without a removable chip that uses onboard flash memory that needs to be programmed- there are programs out there that allow you to use any Windows based laptop or PC to do that yourself, or you can send the ECM off for programming if you are scared of screwing things up.
