I know that this has been covered to some degree, but I am wondering if anyone has had any very recent experience with Silver Sport? I know that they bought out the assets of Keiser at the beginning of the year and although I have read nothing specifically bad about the "New Company" products or service, I wonder if anyone has any info other than " I bought mine from Hurst Driveline".

I am thinking strongly about placing an order and want to get the best products, service and price of course. Are there any specific reasons to buy from one or the other? Any advice is appreciated

Not sure about that company. But I bought a TKO 600 from Keisler and love it. The 5spd makes twice the car as before. I did change my gears from 3.08 to 3.55 while I was doing the change over to the trans

Thanks for the reply.

I am fairly committed to making this upgrade and have had several written and verbal communications with Silver Sport and Hurst Driveline. I have received quotes from both and the price is not a driving (pardon the pun) factor since the cost is almost identical for an equal comparison.

What I have found to be interesting is that the sales folks at HD have told me that I need the Blackjack shifter in order to make everything work with stock tunnel cutout and bolt on shift handle. The folks at SS say that the standard TKO 600 shifter is a direct bolt up with no cutting required and also will work perfectly with the bolt on shift handle. SS told me that they are providing a 1310 diff yoke u joint on the drive shaft since my 12 bolt is stock and HD is telling me that they have included 1350 at both ends.

One says that I should upgrade to the performance aluminum drive shaft since I am running 600 + lb ft torque and the other says that I should have the SST carbon fiber lined synchronizer blocker ring for faster smoother shifts which also includes the upgraded bronze shift fork pads for added durability. for $400.00

I will say that the Silver Sport proposal is very comprehensive and detailed and the Hurst version is a basic email and they are hard to reach by phone.

I thought that a decision was going to be easy, but it seems just buying the trans kit is a project in itself.

I bought the HD kit with hyd clutch and am very happy with how it turned out.
I also upgraded the rear with a Yukon posi and 3.73 gears.
Installation was straight forward with the exception on a little massage to the trans tunnel to clear the vent on top of the trans.
I went with the blackjack shifter. Fit is good.

Glad that it seems that either will be a good decision. Still confused as to why I was told that I will need the blackjack shifter in order to make it work without cutting the tunnel. Maybe I spoke with a less than knowledgeable newby at HD.

The offset shifter is needed to correctly center it in the console.
I measured and cut the hole in the tunnel, but I measured off of the trans using a template I searched for on this site.
The HD instructions say that the stock tremec shifter will require a little trimming to fit if your car has a factory cutout and no console.
Blackjack shifter is only needed for console cars.

This is very helpful information as I do have a console car.

Okay, all "geared up" now. I made the deal with Silver Sport today. I did some more research and found them to be the better choice for me. Like anything else, there are always the "chocolate and vanilla" preferences so I am sure that others will disagree with the decision and that's okay. I found the guys at SS to be much more knowledgeable than HD when it came to the technical side of the discussion, the internals and presented their products much more professionally in my case.

I am writing this only to share my experience, not to take sides as I am sure that many of the other companies have similar products too.

Steve--I'd like my car from 700R4 to a 5-speed--do you mind telling what your cost was for the package?

Hi Brent,

Although you will need to make some additional changes (bell housing, pedal assembly, z bar setup, etc to go from an auto to a manual, the price of my setup with a new Hurst stick and the otherwise complete kit was under $3,500 to my door. I believe that they do have a more complete kit that is designed to go from auto to 5 speed too. Give them a call, they are pretty user friendly..
