has anyone installed a stereo in their car and how did you mount/finish the deck on the slanted dash panel, is there a kit to finish it of properly? I bought a blank panel and cut a new hole to match the deck but for the deck to sit level the bottom of the deck stays exposed. an ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I went through this a few years ago. A previous owner had hacked up the radio hole so I figured I'd add a double DIN. The local shop made this out if fiberglass and wrapped it in vinyl. I'm not crazy about the look but it works for now. I'm also able to adjust the tilt of the screen.

In my research on this site I came across the photos below (I'm on my iPad and can only post 1 pic per post). I don't have a link to the thread and if I recall correctly when I found this pic the poster had not finished the project so I don't know how it turned out. But I really like the idea and when I get to the point of repainting my car (which will need metal work) I might see if I can have this idea fabricated into it.

Re: Cut up dash board....68 stero by GM

I recently purchased a 68 coupe.
The person who owned it before me cut up th dash to put in a new style radio. There was no radio in the car when I bought it, and I would like to put one in.
I have 2 questions:
1. Does anybody have a picture of the dash with the dash trim panel and radio removed, or a parts explosion of the dash? If possible I would like to put in a new stock style radio, and want to know what it will take to fix the dash.
2. If my first option is to complcated I was wonderning if anybody knows how to put in a new style radio and make it so the face is not pointing down?
I hope this all makes sense.
I would appricate any help you could give me.
Thanks
this is all I could find, a couple shots with radio...in fact its mine

found a adapter kit that works great Metra part#99-9222 its actually for a 75-93 Volvo but with a little effort works great for a DIN deck install. I will post some photos once finished.:beers:

Nice console gauges! Exactly what I am in process of doing. Mounting autometer traditional classic mech oil press, water temp and volt. Question....what are two lights by shifter plate?
