Hywaystar, what you could also do if you are concerned with valve to piston clearance or piston deck to head clearance is:

For valve to piston, install some light springs on head , maybe some cut down junkers on both valves( old rev kit springs cut in half work) . put heads back on motor with out gaskets and snug down tight. install one set of push rods on lifters and set rockers to 0 lash.. Roll motor around and get to a point where piston is closest to either valve. Then push down on valve via rocker and check to see where you are or even squeez in .110 feeler guage, under exhaust valve and roll motor over again slowly,, if it clears then you have base starting place on what actual clearances are. Do Intake same way . Use a feeler guage and what ever safety clearances you desire. If you are running alumnin rods,, allow .030 on both.
Before you take heads off.. get you a piece of .100 solder core wire and put thru spark plug hole and roll motor over again. Make sure you get to other side of clyinder in squish area. That piston will flatten the wire to your exact clearance.. All of this gives you true readings, then add in whatever your gaskets are and you got it all.. This works on Hemi's and it should work on Chevy's
