I have a 12 bolt in a 58 Chevy pickup that I'm restoring and I'm wanting to go to a 9". I was told it was out of a 68 camaro. The casting date is h138. The numbers on the axle tube is CC BS 0829G1. If I read on here right, it's a 68 housing and it has 3.31 gears. I was thinking of selling it but I'm not sure what it is worth. I was hoping a camaro guy could use it. Thanks for the help.

Hi Tate,
Was the housing modified to fit in the 58 Chevy pickup?

They're worth good $$. You should get $1500 if it's in good working order with the posi. Makes it easier if it's got the original spring perches on them along with the brake setup.

What part of Kansas are you. I could be interested in that rear end. I have a 3:31 to 1 for my 68 but it is from a 70 and has been modified. Looking forward to the photos you are posting. Could be worth the trip.

Welcome, Tate. Looks like it was cast Aug. 13th and assembled Aug. 29th of '68, so it is for a '69 model. What is the casting number? That will determine what it was originally used in.

Welcome Tate! Curious about the axle stamp you posted, is it 'CC BS' or 'C BS'? Just wondering if the cast date is actually H 13 9 rather than 8 and it's a late 69 rear end with the 'C' prefix for what had been intended to be 1970 model year production. On cast items like the center gear carrier, often hard to tell an 8 from a 9, and 'BS' was used in both model years.

i got the picts taken, but when i go to up load them on picturetrail it says that they are to large. i can email them to someone if they will post them for me. thanks tate. it is located at 67748.

It is most likely CBS code from a 1970 Nova. Possibly a very late 1969 Camaro.

Let me know. I am not that far away. Send pics to my email.
