Hi All,

I am trying to Trying to ID two plugs ( green wires) in trunk? They are located in the wire harness right next to each Tail light bulb portion of the wiring harness. I have one on the driver and one on the passenger side. They both are a green wire and a female plug similar to the plug that supplies the License plate light.I've looked up in some wiring diagrams off the web but cannot see any reference to what these are for. Anybody have any ideas.

Thanks
Ray

For 67 (I don't know if it is the same for other years) Green is shown as the color for the back up lights. If you have female plugs on the ends then they would be the back up light connection for a Rally Sport model. Hope this helps.

Hi Obxhokie,

It is a 68 RS. I'll check further, All my lights seem to have something already connected, I have two sets of sockets and bulbs for each tail light.
One socket and bulb for each side light. My rear lower lights seem to have wiring coming from underneath. I have one wire and plug for the License plate light. I can't see anything else to connect to.

Thanks

I found the brown wires from each backup light stuck up in the bottom behind the gas tank not connected. they have the rubber grommet and the plug on them. I have no holes in the trunk for the grommets to fit into. I guess I need to drill the holes. Does any one have a picure or can tell me proper position for the holes to at least try and be correct. Also I found a brown wire coming from somewhere behind the top of the gas tank going up through a grommet into the center of the trunk between the gas fill tube and the rear of the trunk. It is cut off right after it enters the trunk. anyone have an ida on that one.

Thanks
ray

i can only speak for the 69's back up light grommet hole location's. on the heavy steel bumper braces located in the trunk (the ones that go from the trunk floor to the tailpan) there are little half circles cut in them on the floor part of the flange. the holes should be located next to these 1/2 circles. they are located on the outboard side of the braces. 1/2" holes i believe but measure your grommets for the correct size. again this is for a 69 not sure if 68 would be the same.

the cut off brown wire is either your gas gauge or the rear license plate light.

Ray,

I haven't figured out how to post pictures here yet so I am sending you an email with a picture showing where the RS backup light wire comes up through the trunk floor on my 67. Let me know if you dont get my email or the picture attachment.

ray,

the braces i'm talking about are in the trunk. there is no reason to drop the gas tank. the hole drops down into the cavity between the inner and outer tailpans.

do a search on this site. i know i saw a pic one time of this.

Here is the hole and you can fish the end down to the backup light once its thru the trunk hole and grommet

Thanks Click,

I'll use your picture and another sent by Obxhokie to match up where I need to drill holes.
I want to get the trunk part done and then work on the wiring up front. The previous owner put in a hurst shifter and I believe the car used to be an automatic because all I have under the dash is a two wire plug, ( light green and pink I think) and no where to plug into, I have looked down into the shifter area from inside and cannot see any reverse switch.I have not researched it enough yet and do not know what I am looking for or where it would be.
That will be next,

Thanks
Ray

Ray,

The backup light switch for manual cars will be mounted on the sidecover of the transmission on the reverse gear lever. I Dont have a picture of that one but I am sure someone else would be able to post one for you.
