i am looking at a 1968 RS/SS Clone.

It now has a 454 in it.

Motor and paint 2 years ago.

Rebuilt 454.

Car is really clean inside and out.

No visible rust and none detected during inspection.

Seller is asking $28 but there is room to negotiate.

Initial discussion he says bottom line is $25k.

Its slightly more than I want to pay but I think it is clean enough to merit the price.

My biggest concern is how to take that it has a big block in it and how that effects not only its value but the integrity of the car.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Welcome to TC, Matt. Agree with Frank, I see no big deal. Looks pretty nice as far as I can tell....slight hood alignment issues that shouldn't be too difficult to fix. Assuming there are no hidden rust issues, 25K seems fair.

Would've been a VERY rare paint and interior combo originally, Palomino Ivory, black vinyl top and black custom interior with bench seat !

See a few little things, nothing major.
$25K...I can see it.
No one asked about the VIN.....was it born with a 6 cylinder ? Some would say effects value, but this is a clone also. (most start with an 8cylinder VIN)

Take it for a test ride, and if it fits your budget, your wants, your needs, welcome to the red-headed step-child club.....68's ;) ) :D

I agree......the some of the parts warrents the 25K you could not build it for that.... if your inspections are correct. Very nice looking in pictures even with the little issues.....good luck with the purchase.....

Well, the very first thing I would do is move the "SS" emblem down about 2 inches in the grille so it is centered like it is supposed to be. That does not look like the correct SS emblem anyway. That would drive me crazy!

What kind of 5-speed tranny does it have - TKO? If someone just dropped one of the Borg Warner 5-speeds out of a pickup truck in there, it will not be long for this world behind that 454.

Hey Matt
Upon further review. (I first saw this very early this morning) Take a close look at the front grille and bumper when you see it again in person. There is something there that's bugging me. The grille looks a little off in that the bumper seems square but the grille seem high in the middle. Not just the SS emblem. Also that driver's side headlamp door is out of alignment. Be sure to check behind the grille and headlamps for clues. Otherwise, nice car.

The fenders have droop that was never corrected, that is one reason the RS grille assembly looks awful. The rest of the nose tin and bumper is a mess. It takes a great deal of time to make reproduction RS grilles and headlights fit well because they are poorly made and flimsy. Add fender droop and forget it.

Pictures do not always show true condition or quality of work. There are a lot of cars for sale around that price.
