I just put a 4L65e with an LQ9 in a 69. Fit the tunnel only needing to bulge the area for the tranny cooler lines.

As I understand the 80 is larger and requires tunnel mods

I'm pretty sure NO tunnel mods are needed John. The 4L80 is nothing more than a 400 with overdrive. I'm going to have to confirm if tunnel mods are necessary. Here are the fittings I wanted to use for the cooling lines. http://www.ebay.com/itm/231278300872?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT No mods needed to tunnel area. Thx.

Thx John.
Let me know. I have a TH400 coming with the new 67 that I will think about changing to an OD. The car is a 396 car so if the 80 works I might think about it over a 700R4 even though it needs a controller.

It's just going to be a cruiser so I not really concerned about the tranny gear ratios.

Yes my vert is going to be a cruiser as well. I did want to go the pro-touring route, so honestly right now, I'm all over the place with decisions. One day I'm going this way, an hour later I'm going that way LOL. Check out www.USshift.com for the controller.

So..... Donny.
What did you decide?

Seems there is currently a shortage of 200-4R trannys out there. One guy ordered one from Lonnie at Extreme, and after 4 weeks doesn't have a trans yet.

Jake has suspended sales.

My local builder says he scrapped several hundred back before anyone wanted one, because in stock form (unless for a GN or Corvette, etc.) they were just too week.

I have a line on a GM reman 460LE and can get it at a good price. Shortening the drive shaft doesn't bother me. But, I have to spring for a controller and a separate remote tps.

Would like to know what real world experience guys have had with either the usshift unit or the tci. TCI is available here for about $700 (which is more than I would have to pay for the trans). http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tci-Fast-Ez...4L80E-FREE-T-SHIRT-/272032887154?hash=item3f566c7172:g:4soAAOSwpDdVceEo&vxp=mtr

Opinions (other than griping about the gear spread.... I promise for my application that is a non issue).

Rather than a rebuilt unit, maybe look at Gmpp, I am using the 4L70e in my current project, no clearance problems and it has beefier internals (including an extra planetary gear) over the 4l60/65. Tci has a lower cost controller ($640) which is 1/2 the cost of the gmpp controller.

Lynn, I'm back on the TKO idea. LOL. I'm all over the place with decisions. John kinda talked me into a 4L60 or 65 instead of the 4L80. So I went from thinking on a 4L65E to a TKO in about a day. As of now, I will go TKO. I will wait to hear your review of the 4L60. I'm in the middle of removing the engine/trans now. I really liked the USshift controller.

Donny,

Did these fittings work for you ? Yes, I know this thread is old.

I was wondering if some 90* fittings would give more tunnel clearance.
