I am wondering if anyone can provide a general statement as to which online store provides the best parts for a 1969 Z28? Looking for motor mounts, spark plug shields, hose clamps, reproduction battery, battery cables, battery tray and other similar parts?

Obviously there are lots of online stores, such as Ricks Camaro, D&R Classic Parts, Steve's Camaro Parts, Classic Industries, others?

Obviously you get what you pay for and some of these vendors have varying degree of quality for their parts as it relates to originality, i was just wondering in general if one of these shops or any others is much better then others

thanks

Blake

Here's the deal. This has been asked a thousand times. There have been a thousand different answers. You have to understand, there are only three or four companies making this stuff. Quality varies from production run to production run. All of us have had to do the same thing, order parts and cross our fingers that we got some good stuff. If not, it has to go back and the process starts anew.

In my opinion, Classic Headquarters (ran by the guy that used to own Rick's) has the best quality stuff. I always ask for it first. sBut they don't make everything. Trim Parts is another place to go for quality but their catalog is smaller. As far as vendors go? Heartbeat City wins hands down in terms of quality they sell and their customer service. The staff there is very experienced with nobody having under ten years and Jim the owner is second to none on first gen knowledge.

If you want stuff that fits all the time every time, get NOS GM or buy used GM and refurbish it. Heartbeat City has a fantastic assortment of NOS and used GM parts. You'll pay a fortune but its correct for your car.

x2 for heartbeatcity, you pay a bit more but they sell the best quality parts.

They don't sell everything though, when I needed the proper round bar shifter heartbeat didn't have it.

I want to mention national parts depot, they are a sponsor here, so I'm about to send them an order to try them out.

Good luck

Like everyone else, we all have our favorites. I ALWAYS use D&R Classics. They are very knowledgeable and have never given me the run around. They are always quick to resolve any issues they may come up (both times it was my fault too!).

I've spent a small fortune with Heartbeatcity on my 69 Z in the last year with I think about 25 orders. I get the correct great quality parts with fast shipping every time. Their website is easy to use and informative and their staff is always helpful too. They may not always be the cheapest but their service and selection makes it well with it. I'm a 40 year parts man too so I hope this helps. Oh and Blake, I'm just up by Seattle and when I order by early Monday I always receive the order on Friday or before.

All,

I appreciate the feedback very much, sounds like i will run with Heartbeat City, i have been looking at their website for sometime, now it is time to stop lurking and make some orders, they do have a great website, and their original parts section is unique.

Selbster, I am originally from North end of Seattle, i know the Maple Valley area very nice,

all thanks again for information, sorry if the question was redundant with prior questions on the forum,

Regards,

Blake

No apology necessary, Blake. Yours was the question that will always be asked and have no correct answer. I think you'll like HBC.

What ever supplier you use, be sure to demand good customer service. There has been a number of post on the site complaining about parts fit or quality. If a company has good customer service and it's used, we should never see those post. Don't order your parts so much ahead of time that the supplier wouldn't be welling to replace them if here is a problem. Also be sure you keep all the order paper work until you are satisfied with the parts and they are installed. Never email a supplier about a problem because it's too easy to blow it off. Call them and if the guy you're talking to doesn't have the information you want ask for a supervisor. If they say they will call you back be sure they know what time you expect it or you'll be calling them back.

Just my opinion and good luck with your project.

Roger

I usually compare prices between several of the different vendors especially when they all have the same item and then buy from the cheapest. Also keep in mind the vendors that support these forums, sometimes they can beat the prices of other sites if you tell them you are a member here.

Blake this may be useful information to you since we live so close. I ordered a steering box from Camaro Central yesterday (Monday) morning at 6:30am our time (Pacific). I just got the shipping confirmation today (Tuesday) indicating a delivery day of next Monday. If I had ordered from Heartbeatcity I would have received the order this Friday and could have installed the parts this weekend. HBC doesn't carry the one I wanted so I had to use Camaro Central. HBC uses FedEx instead of UPS and ships same day if ordered early enough. On the up side I did get an awesome deal on the box I wanted.

I am probably a bit biased since this company is local and I have been buying from them since they were working out of their living room, but I am a big fan of Firewheel Classics. First Gen Camaros only and VERY open about the quality of the reproduction parts. They know there stuff and will spend the time with you to get your order right.

I like Camaro Central and have ordered several items from them. They are not bad on price either. Last year I was looking for a Hurst shifter w/assembly for my stock Camaro and Central's price was many dollars less than Jegs, Summit, some local shops around here, etc. Only thing I don't like about them is shipping costs, they won't ship free like Jegs/Summit on orders over 100 but they do run 10-15% off promotions from time to time.

Funny you mention shipping costs and camaro central. I wanted to buy an original kick panel vent cover, they had it for 50$, which seemed high but whatever.

This cover is maybe 6x9 inches and 1/4 inch thick and they wanted 52$ for shipping. I'm in Canada so I know shipping will be a bit more but $52 US (75$ Canadian) to ship something not much bigger then a slice of bread is outrageous.
