In 1971 my uncle Paul purchased this 67 Camaro from its original owner who kept it in the garage and never drove it. It had 1238 miles. Check out the recent pic of the odometer. Uncle Paul wanted this car for one reason. It was his new quarter mile street car. So out came the stock 396 and in went the race motor and tranny. After years of racing the car, uncle Paul let the Camaro sit for over 30 years. Last weekend Paul give me a call, he wanted me to stop by his garage. When I showed up, he took the cover off the 67. He just installed a new motor in the car. I hope I got this right, it's a 565 motor worked to the bone. According to Paul, it's over 900 hp with pump gas. I guess he is having a midlife crisis in his late 60's. I can't wait till this bad boy is complete, including the new tranny and interior with roll bar. More pics coming soon.

Cool story, cool old car too!
Should go good, 565 making 900 horse on pump gas might be a bit optimistic but it should still haul. Thanks for posting the pics/story.

Sean, that motor is no joke. It was on the dyno machine and put out 933 hp on 92 octane. I wanted my uncle to restore the car back to original. Then put the original 396/ L78 back in with the M-21 trans. I saw pics when it was Butternut Yellow back in the day. Not many of those cars on the road today.

565 making 933 HP ... hmmmmmm, is this truly possible on 92 ???

Steve

Besides it's a fairly "modern" engine. I'm sure that uncle Paul knows what 900HP on 'motor' is like to drive, right? It should be able to blow the tires off at over 100mph.

Tom, very impressive then. Like the guys point out dynos are different and how the operator runs it will vary things, but regardless that motor is bad a$$ if it's putting down 930 horse on pump gas on any dyno. Thats 1.6 horse per cube on pump. Nice work for sure!

I'm kind of an old school racer so I'm with your uncle, that's what the car has been the majority of its life, I'd have done the same thing! Cool.

Is he going to take it down the track?

Hey Guys, just got off the phone with uncle Paul regarding his motor. It was built by Reher Morrision in Texas. Check out the link.http://rehermorrison.com/product/565ci-super-series-23o/ It puts out 993 hp not 933, lol. He had it custom built for pump gas at a cost over 25k. Today he received his ATI Turbo 400 transmission with trans brake, thats our next project. Paul ran the car with Cragar Super Trick wheels, 4.5" fronts and 12" rears. Mickey Thompson tires which he still has (pics to come). When the car is finished he will take it to the track perhaps one or twice. Then run it on the street in Florida, A1A Blvd. Ft Lauderdale.

Hey Jeff, I had my vert out this weekend. Not good... I hit some bad potholes in Philly and it died. After checking under the hood, my horn relay bolt came loose and lost it's ground. My fusible link then blew. I replaced it on the spot, I had a spare in my trunk, thank god. Then coming home I lost my headlights. After driving 10 miles in the dark, I did make it home. The next day I pulled the carpet up and found the connector to the high beam switch was broke. That's my next project this weekend. Should be 100 percent soon. Never a dull moment with a fifty year old original car.

Reher Morrison, 'nuff said, lol. No one knows big block chevy like those guys.
Bada$$ motor.

Reher and Morrison, ATI all unknowns in the industry. I was not judging. 900 hp is possible on pump gas. Great car, great parts. Your uncle knows who to deal with to get the right parts. His choice of rear tire fell short. ET Streets is the way to go. He should look into Caltracs rear set up, springs, shocks, traction device. Just a cool car
