Grudge Night @ Sacramento Raceway

Are any of you planning on attending Grudge Night on 9/21/2002 6:00 PM at Sacramento Raceway? It is usually a great outing. For those of you that don't know anything about it: It is open to all types of cars and is meant to keep people from street racing (fully muffled street machines). There are some rules must have mufflers and pass a tech inspection (tech is pretty lax on these evenings). I will include a link so you can read up on it. I would love to meet some of you guys and what better place than at the drag races. Those of you that are interested can e-mail me (camaroman7d@aol.com) and maybe we can arrange a caravan to the track (if there is enough interest). I know there are a couple Camaro clubs out there, How about it guys? $30 car and driver, $7 for spectators This might sound a little steep for those of you that only have been out to Wed. nights, but you will get a lot more runs in and there is no eliminations. You can make a pass and turn right around and get back in the staging lanes. Would have loved to come out and meet up but the club has a run during the day and I have family obligations in the evening...

Looks like Nov and Dec are full of day time Sat test and tune on the schedule. Maybe we can get a bunch of TC folks together for one of them...

We pretty much race year round weather permiting. I prefer the grudge nights over any other time for several reasons. On test and tune nights/days (friday night and saturday) they only run one lane at a time. Cars with slicks in one lane (the best lane) and treaded tires in the other lane. I much prefer to run side by side with cars that are somewhat evenly matched. That's what drag "racing" is all about. If you have someone that you would like to line up against you can on Grudge night (hence the name). Usually not as crowded as typical Weds nights (not as many imports), no eliminations so you can "play" with your tune up.

There is one more Grudge night in October, I will try to make that one too, but who knows how the weather will be by then. Just a few points of why this Saturday is prime, sorry for the short notice. Hopefully a few guys from the forum will be able to make it out.
And no I don't work for the track nor get paid for rounding up cars. I just thought it was a good suggestion.

For those of you that have never made a pass this is a great time to learn as well. Plenty of chances without worrying about getting beat and having to leave. Plenty of people around willing to give pointers (me included, though I am not a pro by any means)

If we go on a saturday late december- mid january, ill be back in sacramento for christmas break, so that will work for me. Dumb education gets in the way of all my fun

The only cars I see here in berkeley are tree-brown volvos, electric vehicles, and saabs. Supposedly professors have more important things to worry about than cars. To them I say, "huh?"

That sounds interesting, but i am wondering if it is worth my time, i have Z rated tires that are pretty bald, and i already have a problem with a lot of tire spin, is it even worth racing on bald street tires? or should i just go anyway and see how bad of 60 ft times i can get?

Thought someone might be interested in this approach. Our local 1/8 track has grudge, test & tune all in one night (Thursday). All staging lanes are open and both lanes run at the same time. If you want to race your buddy you simply have him line up behind you in the staging lane and then when it's your turn you point back to his car and the guy working the staging lanes will let both of you line up at the same time. And just like your Sacramento track you run as often as you want between 6:00 and 8:00pm. Then they have what's called a Gambler's race which I think is a mini version of eliminations. The best part is this is all for $5.00 a head and no charge for the car.

How bald are your tires? If they are truely bald they will not let you run. This is for safety reasons. Pick up a decent set of tires and come on out, it's all for fun.

Berkeley is not that far from Sac. 1 1/2 max. Hop in the car and come on out. Seriously your education is far more important, there will be other times to drag race. Maybe next summer for you, there are no Grudge nights in December or January. There are test and tunes weather permitting, but they only run one lane at a time.

Dennis that is a great idea, but we would need to have people that are commited. Once we had the number of participants we could aproach the track and see what kind of deal they would cut us. I think we would need a pretty large turnout to make it worth the effort. I am game, I am willing to help. I think we would have to invite more than just Camaros to get enough cars though. Maybe we could have a Camaro vs. Mustang shoot out. I am open to ideas. This will take a little time to put together and will probably have to wait until next year. I know you can test and tune all day on some Fridays, but that costs $100 and like I said before they only run 1 lane at a time. I know the track can be rented and I will enquire about that (if there is enough interest). We could then take the cost and divide that by however many people have commited. I am not in any clubs, so I don't have a big group to run the idea past (other than here). I'm sure I could come up with 10 or more cars though (wouldn't be all Camaros).

Maybe when the date is set I can head back to sacramento one weekend for the grudge racing or test and tune, whichever. Does anyone know if Camcojb has run his car at the track before? If you are there, then, DETAILS DETAILS! im guessing low 10's high 9's, that is unless you can spin the tires up to about 140 mph. Camcojb, say you are in 4th gear on the freeway (75mph), can you punch it and roast the tires at that speed? OR just humor me with any cool things that you have done with your car. Thanks a lot.

I've never run the car at the track. I don't think they'd let me run but I could find out. I have loaned one of my sweeper trucks to the track during their events for track clean-up so maybe they'd do me a favor and let me do 1/8th mile stuff.

I have done some "tuning" on a deserted back road near my house. I do the full throttle stuff in third gear (1:1 ratio) with the convertor locked. It will spin the tires some in high gear especially when it gets near 4500-5000 rpm and up. I've never done a 4th gear full throttle pull; you'd have to be going real fast to not have it downshift to third. As it is, in third I have to be at about 70 mph to be able to floor it without downshifting to 2nd (I have 3.25 rear gears).

I had the car on a chassis dyno this morning with the new 540 but I killed the convertor and couldn't get any real numbers. The lock-up clutch is toast and slipped badly throughout the pull. The trans is coming out and being gone through by Bruce at Performance Trans. I know I'll need a convertor. The trans feels fine, drove it home without a whimper.

I think I'm going to a five speed. I had already been thinking of doing that just for the fun of a manual trans again. This latest deal kinda cements the deal.

They are bald in the middle, with some tread on the outside, but pretty bald, you can still see faint traces of tread. Don't have the money for tires right now($450 just for 2 back ones), Wish i had a set of slicks on some dummy wheels that i could mount up, by the way sac is only a hour from berkely in good traffic, maybe less, if you speed

I have never drag raced at a legal track before. I was told that track officials will check your car to see if it starts in ANY gear other than park, and that if it does,they will kick you out. This IS true isn't it?

Garfield, Yes this is true. It is for the safety of others. In the staging lanes you are pretty much bumper to bumper with people walking between the cars, you wouldn't want someone without a neutral safety switch to forget he was in gear and fire up the car (not only would he cause an injury, but could damage other cars too). With that said sometimes they will let you slide and they don't check every single car. Just be careful cause if you were to accidently to any of the above you will have some very upset people on your hands. In all honestly it is not hard to fix.

Cody, $450 for a set of tires? My goodness what size rims and tires do you run? I would offer my spare set of ET streets, but 1. I don't have room in my car to carry them and, 2 I don't know if they would clear on your car. heck I will sell them to you for far less than $450.

Camcojb, awesome. and for your runs, how long do you think it will take to put one of those special PVC rollcages in there
