So what do you think would win? Now becaus the camaro cost about $3,000 more than the mustang do you think the mustang would win if you put $3,000 in mods? And which would you choose?

I think it doesn't matter, pick a car you like. People comparing stock cars is kind of pointless because people that race usually modify. Pick one and build it.

But I would say the Camaro is the better platform because of the ls3 vs. 4.6l. ( I don't think 5.0 was out then).

Save your $$ and get the new GT350 ... absolutely killer

Cheers'
Steve

the new gt350 is sweet but I'd hold off til we see 2016 1le and zl1 track times. I don't think the mustang stands a chance.

You can find a 2010 SS pretty cheap now at least around here. I have a 2010 SS but its far from stock. Both great cars.

I can only speak to the SS great car heavy but does respond well to modifications. My car is an auto with a t76 turbo and suspension upgrades. It went 11.98 at 121 on street tires and spinning a lot to give an idea how a 5thgen performs with forced induction. ive seen stock bolt on cars go 12.75 headers tune and cai.

The 16s performance is insane. Stock cars are hitting low 12.35s and better. the ZL1 is going to be a crazy car. The only issue I had my family cant fit in it at all. Very small on the inside but the best performing Camaro ever built.

I went and looked at a 2016 and the back seat is a joke. Luckily for me my wife is 5'0" and I have a 4 year old girl so if I go that route we should all fit.

My wife is tiny too, but my 6 and 8 year old couldn't fit at all, couldn't get there feet down. Sucks

IMO the 2010-2013 is the best looking. I bought a 2010 SS back a couple of months ago with only 14k miles for $21k. If you look nationally you can find many good deals on just about any SS color with whatever options you want. The SS had the same horse power rating for the 10-15 model year. I have the 6 speed with the LS3 with a factory 426HP, no mods.
(the 6 speed manual was the only way you could could get a LS3, the automatic cars got the variant L99 rated at 400HP)
If you don't have a issue with visibility, I think the car is a lot of fun, and runs great. I am not as big of a fan of the 4.6L Mustang. (I do like the looks of the 2005 though.)

I would also agree the 2016 Shelby GT-350R is the way I would go, High revs, smaller displacement, light body, what a awesome combination. Like the original Boss 302 and Z/28.

I was at the Chevrolet dealer yesterday and looked at the 6th Gen Camaro. If you like the evolutionary design, and can afford the $37k entry price for an SS than that may suit you. It now has 455 HP standard on the 6 speed, and weighs almost 200 lbs less, with suspension improvements so it is going to be quicker than the 5th gen.

If you waited for the 6th gen ZL-1, or Z/28 to drop, and you had about 30-35k to spend you could look for a decent ZL-1 with a whopping 580 HP.

Have to agree about the looks

I dont know, im kinda a fan of the 2014-15. to me it makes the car look wider and lower. but i'm bias as the only 5th gen i would probably get is a 1le with recaro option(only availible in 14-15)

The 1LE is a great deal I wish the option existed when I ordered my car in 09.
I dig the 14-15 a lot as well.

If Chevrolet loaned them the car for the test drive though, they would have had to install them separately, since it wouldn't have come down the line like that.
(out of the norm)

The 2011 Mustang w 5.0, performance wise, is a different car. My friend has one & it has beaten more than its share of 5th gen Camaros, whereas the 4.6 is a much slower car.

I'm not a Mustang fan, but credit where credit is due.
The Mustang seems to keep getting faster.

I'm anxious to see some '16 Camaro's around here.
Still not sold on the look of them, but I would welcome a lighter car.

Keep in mind the 4th gen SS could run 12.90's totally stock with a 5.7.

I am thinking they purposely did it for the magazine spread, to drive up enthusiasm/nostalgia from the 1st gen.

The Coyote 5.0 motors are a beast. The new match up of 5.0 vs. the new LT1 will be great.

The 2011 Mustang with the 5 liter Vs. the Gen 5, could be the driver, could also be the 400hp automatic L99 vs. the 426HP LS3 manual. Where the Mustang weighs a little less and has 412HP.

So a couple factors there. At a + 11.99 1/4 mile I would say the manual with less weight, and more horses would be the way to go with the Mustang or the Camaro. Now you get into the 11's then an Automatic trans may be getting you down the 1/4 faster and compensate for the extra weight, and rear wheel horsepower loss through the trans/converter.
Just my 2 cents :grin2:
