I am considering dumping my 1979 z28 due to severe rust. The car has a 12 bolt out of a '68 or '69 camaro, and I want to switch to a 10 bolt so that I can hang on to the 12. How difficult will it be to switch back to an original 10 bolt? Will I have to mess with the perch springs? Also, what is a rearend like this worth? My neighbor has a '68 rs, and has been bugging me to sell it to him. Thanks again!

Most likely the spring perches were removed from the 12 bolt and re-welded to fit the 79, since the 69 and 79 have different spacing between the springs. If that is the case, a 10 bolt meant to fit a 79 should bolt right in.

The value of your 12 bolt depends on what you have. I've seen freshly rebuilt ones with positraction in the $1400-$1600 range. Used w/o posi can be significantly less.

If the spring perches have been cut off and re welded then the price drops a lot. There is about 3 inches difference between the location of the first gen spring perches and the second gen spring perches.
