How about stating what you are doing to assist yourself in finding it and then others can chime in with other helpful tips. Do you have a auto locator paper in your area? You could run a help wanted page and maybe even with a picture.

You could try filling this DMV form out and list "Motor vehicle market research" perhaps as the reason. This will give you the current owner. I've never tried it but was thinking of locating my old pickup this way. All you need is the VIN which you have and a legit reason.
