Norm I believe the consensus is that while the core of the shakers are similar 67-68 - birds slightly taller, the mounting brackets are very different and that with modification you can mount Camaro shakers in your Bird. But the front seem to be the harder ones to fit. Do you have a 68 Pontiac AIM to reference against its cousin in the Camaro AIM?

Firebird shakers have different brackets. The shakers themself are all the same best I can tell just different mounting brackets.67-68 camaros have same brackets and 69 is different.I've taken shakers and made brackets to fit what year I needed.A good machine shop can do it.

When my 67 was restored, they did not put the shakers back in. I don't have any vibration (drove it 3 hours on the highway to get it home). My mechanic tells me not to worry about it as long as there is no vibration (he drove it and thinks it is fine). Anyone see any problem?

Yes! it's about harmonic's, if you only drive your car a few hundred miles a year it's not a big deal but if you drive several thousand miles a year it becomes one.

Just because you don't feel vibration doesn't mean there are no vibrations being created. Vibrations happen in different frequencies, think about voices, singing, musical instruments and to tie it together to a dog whistle you and I can't hear but our furry friends seem to! They are all vibrations at different frequencies.

Without a roof on the car each fender is kinda hanging out there without full structural support. The frequency the fenders will vibrate without the harmonic dampening will cause things like mirrors to not stay how you set them and small fasteners to loosen over time. The factory installed them for good reason!

yes they are. they were a lot easier a few years back. now everyone has seemed to have scooped them all up for their restos. correct me if im wrong but places like ebay has gone from used or NOS parts from private sellers to aftermarket business that sell a lot of repo items. in the early 2000's, I remember that it was a pain going through 75 pages of ebay auctions for 69 camaros. If you check now, there are 1542 pages and mostly repo items.

I just wanted to post something that I just verified about 69 Firebird rear cocktail shakers. I looked on line and I found a few postings were people thought 69 Firebird rear shakers should fit a 69 Camaro, but no confirmation of an install. I just purchased a rear pair of 69 Firebird cocktail shakers for my 69 Camaro convertible and they bolted right in. No problems. The only difference is the 69 Camaro rears use 3 mounting tabs. 2 on the bottom and 1 on the top but the Camaro has provision to mount 2 on the top. The 69 Firebird rear shaker has 4 mounting points. 2 on the bottom and 2 on the top and line up perfectly to the 69 Camaro mounting points. I just thought I would share this actual install detail.

Thanks,

Ted

I don't think this was ever answered...
From the Gentleman who inquired about his Firebird Seat bottom and other Firebird Parts on his LA assembled Camaro.
If I am not mistaken YES Firebirds and Camaros were built together in LA.
ALSO
Begining in April/May of Calender Year 1969 they began being built together in Norwood OH too.
The Firebird's production, previously done at GM Lordstown OH was moved to Norwood so Lordstown could be refitted to build the Vega.

The 69 Assm shows the dampener revision as 11/22/68 - any idea when the changeover actually did occur?
Has anyone compared the two different part numbers for each position?
If so are there any discernible differences?

This is more oriented towards, restoration but figured this was a good starting point. I want to Power Coat all 4 cocktail shakers. Part of the process requires baking at 400 degrees. Is there any harm / risk involved if I pore out all the ATF fluid and then proceed with powder coating !

Thanks.

Here are pictures of 67, 68 Camaro convertible rear cocktail shakers:
Left rear is # 3909927
Right rear is # 3909928
Should I assume that if I don't have these "shakers" mine isn't a true convertible? I think the last owner chopped the top on a 68 and installed a convertible top. It doesn't have these shakers in the trunk and it doesn't have that brace under it. I'll show you what mine does have and it's weird but I guess it gets the support it needs. Will take a pic tonight.

Check your vin, if it starts 12x37 it's a coupe x=3 or 4 and if it's 12x67 it's a ragtop...

I went to install my rear shakers after I had the body work done but the hole for the top doesn’t exist. Mine is a 68 RS vert. I started searching and found these...
https://www.camarocentral.com/1967_1968_Quarter_Panel_Brace_Convertible_LH_p/she-642.htm

However those don’t look like the brace in the assembly manual. So I have no place for the top to bolt. Can easily drill for bottom holes.

Was hoping to see a pic of a few 68 verts here but most pic links aren’t working. Need a little help. What brace am I missing?
