Got an offer on our house last night and it looks like I'll likely have to sell my baby to get into the house we want.

Many of you have seen my car before but I'll post pics here:

33,XXX on the odometer. I believe it's true mileage but no documentation to back it.

Modifications:
  • Lowered 1.5"
  • 17" American Racing Wheels w/ 225's on the front and 255's on the back- good tread
  • Front power disc brakes- 72 Nova
  • Most bushings are new with remainder of new bushings in box
  • Offenhauser Intake
  • Holley 390 CFM carb- Needs rebuild though. Had planned on going EFI
  • Langdon split headers to a single 2.5" Flowmaster 44 dumping behind wheel
  • Mild cam
  • HEI
  • Electric pusher fan and 3 core radiator
  • New oil pump and pickup
  • 2004r Trans-May need TLC, but comes with spare Powerglide and everything to hook it up
  • Paint is from 2000- has minor chips. Evidence of some bondo- 5 footer. Not perfect but shows extremely well
  • Custom interior from around 2000 as well. While and blue leather.
  • Custom Autosound Stereo with Sony 6x9's in the back and dual voice coil front center speaker
  • Front Shoulder Belts, Rear Shoulder Belts in box not installed yet (another to-do for the spring that won't happen now)
  • Glass is all 100% original. Minor pitting but it's only original once. Door glass has vent logo from factory
  • New bumpers but originals included
  • Forever Sharp steering wheel. Original included
  • Gauge pod under radio (not shown in pics- will update)
  • 1 wire alternator- 2 years old
  • Includes about 1 quart of PPG paint, no hardener though. If you want to do some touch up it's there.
  • Sound deadened interior- Car sounds and feels really solid when driving
  • Lots of spares, etc.

PM me if interested. I have a couple things I need to mess with on the car as I was in the middle of winter maintenance when this happened. House sold a LOT faster than expected. I'll likely list on Ebay on Wednesday if no interest before then. Wanted to give you guys first shot.

I won't lie: she's not perfect but she's in solid condition and despite it being a six with the new trans the tires spin just fine. It's kind of fun showing up at a car show or meet and confusing people with it. The most common thing to hear is "That doesn't sound like a 6!". It's fun to be at a show and watch guys walking along the line of Camaros without stopping until they get about halfway past my engine bay and realize what they're looking at.

The bad:
-Second gear is slipping under full load. I think it might just be low trans fluid. I'll know more this weekend. That said she's very quick now for a little 6 banger. Definitely faster than a stock 327 2 bbl. Maybe as quick as a stock 327 4bbl or faster depending on the trans.
-Acting like a vacuum leak. Might be the vac advance or something similar. Again: working on it this weekend.
-I patched the floors 2 years ago. It's solid but my welding skills are lacking. If you're a perfectionist you'll likely want to replace with full floors.
-Passenger side door shows evidence of a previous dent that was pulled back in the day when nobody cared about these cars. It was straightened and has a thin coat of bondo. No cracking, however. Just something to note.
-Needs new carpet or stain existing. Original to the car so I didn't touch it but if you want a perfect show car you'll need to address.
-Slight oil leak somewhere. I'm tracking it down to fix this weekend if time allows.

I've put a ton of effort and time into this over the past 4 years. I probably have close to 24k in it now. I didn't keep receipts or anything because I intended to keep the car but life changes and here I am.

If the buyer is local I'll even help work on it if you get into a project down the road. The caveat is I get to ride in it again. As I said: she's my baby and I don't want to lose her but my priority is getting my kids into a house with a bigger yard and better schools.

Some of the trophies:

First place in mild modified at Camaro Nations 2 years ago. Second place last year. Participant judging, not the nit-pickers, though. Couple wins at the Maryland Chevy Show, and a couple local show trophies that I happened to enter. I think there were only 2 shows I entered where I didn't walk away with a trophy or plaque. It was always just a fun family cruiser and not a true show car. Just something I could be proud of without keeping it hermetically sealed.

Are you freaking crazy?
Priced wrong?

Seriously, though, a big lawn, 5 bedrooms, and a better school district are more important than the toy to me right now. I can always get another and build it like I want when the time is right.

Sorry to see this George....Wish I could buy it just to hold as collateral (loan) until you were ready.

BUT, family first :beers:
Well.... might not have to sell it after all. Home loan came in requiring less down. Now it just depends on if the buyer of our house accepts our counter offer.

Been a whirlwind of a week.

Still for sale, though, as this will wipe out our savings and I'm not comfortable not having a nest egg.

George, I did the same thing (almost) had to sell for my first job (needed a truck). Yep, it sucks, but in a few years, you'll be back in the game!! Good luck!

Looking at everything it just makes sense to sell. If i sell it we can pay off everything but our daily driver cars and our house. Factoring in the new house payment it would give us an extra $250 a month if we don't change our habits and leave us a nest egg still.

Maybe I'll get anothet one next year.

George. Nice talking to you today

Doing the right thing for the family is #1.

I sold my toys Vette and boat when I had my 1st kid. 25 years later my son is 16 and wants to get into cars. He was on me to buy a new Vette. Yeah right so he could sneak it out. We bought a 6 cyl Stang then a 5.0 Foxbodty. Dropped in a 347 Stroker and did stuff father/son. He graduated and went to live on his own. The day after he moved out I bought the new Vette. Lol

The 16 years since then we've been very close mainly because of the cars.

You're doing the right thing. :beers:

Life will work out, it's in His plan.
It would be nice if He told us the plan.

Anyway, rear axle ratio?
I would imagine 3.08:1
I believe it's in the 2's but not sure.

..and yes. Everything works out in the end. Always does no matter how bad it seems to be as long as you work.through it.

Not to say my situation is bad. It's actually a good problem to have. Glad we have the Camaro to.allow us to do this.

Sorry to hear you have to sell your baby. When the time is right you will jump right back in. And look at the bright side, you already know how to do everything already when that time arises:yes:

Figured I'd give an update.

First sale fell through. He wanted to drop a V8 into it but backed off when he did the math. Must've been looking at LS swaps or something because he low balled me at 11k.

Another guy coming Saturday to look.

Last night I played around with the carb and vacuum advance some more and it's running better. Not perfect yet but fine for test drives.

Also the trans was a quarter low. Must've been an air bubbles in the torque converter or something. Anyway no slipping now and shifits very well. Too bad I'm selling it because it's fun to drive.

Haven't put it on Ebay yet. I'll wait for the guy on Saturday before doing it.

Good luck with the sale and move.

Sold my 69 Vette to buy my first house and it seemed like the right move at the time. To this day I regret it. But, I did wind up with a few others before I got my 68. I'm sure you'll find the time and space once you get settled into your new place.
Family first, your doing the right thing.
The CL add looks good, but if it were me I'd be asking around 25 because you're going to get beat up over the 6 cyl. Don't get me wrong, I love what you did. I'm sure she's a lotta fun to drive.
Good luck.

I'm not regretting selling it. I can always get another car later. Is it a fun car? Absolutely. Is it replaceable? Yep.

That said I signed a lot of papers yesterday and we'll be moving into here in about 2 months.

(looks smaller than it is in the pics. No trees will do that I guess. about 3,000 sq feet finished, a relatively flat lot and room for a pool down the road)

4 beds, 2.5 baths (currently), .5 acres, new house, granite countertops, 2 car garage, basement is being finished as part of the deal, deck out back, etc.

A guy is coming tomorrow morning to look at the car. He seems quite serious. Military guy. We'll see what happens. If not I have a backup who offered me a fair but lower price. He's seen the car a couple times and knows I baby it.

Regardless I do need to sell it to get in the house. Plus selling it will give me enough breathing room to get a couple things and keep a nest egg afterwards.

Its the right move at the right time.
