It's YOUR car so do what you want. Everyone has their own idea of what looks good so do what you like. At 16 your lucky to have the car. As for money GET a JOB. I like to yell that at my kid so I couldn't resist :D . Seriously though, as stated above the degrease and paint is cheap to do, Krylon works great and if you are careful the results will be great. Good luck with your project.

Engine Compartments are kinda my specialty, so I'll give some advice. Although most of my work is original style, Ive done some custom also.

You want to keep the number of general colors to around 4, maybe 5. If you get into yellow wires, blue clamps, chrome this, orange engine, red msd box, etc., it gets to look unorganized and less thought out. KISS

Also, one of the main keys is to leave no single part untouched. Each part that is un-detailed will stick out like a sore thumb.

Both of these tips are really more time and thought than involving money.

Heres one of my custom ones. Color didnt scan well. It looks all gloss black, but its a burgundy metallic to match the exterior. Note theres 4 main colors: Burgundy, Silver, Black, and Chrome.

And some of my original work. Basically the same theory:

sleeper 86 the nylon braided hose kits i have only found at J.C. Whitneys and the said their are selling them out and not ordering moreso better go there soon!!!!!! yes alot to making an engine bay look good are details!!! when uget a lil cash get small things first like the wire holder that is missing from the top center of your firewall its plastic and costs about 10 bucks through paddock, yearone, ricks camaro, etc. all itdose is organizes your wires neatly ! these small things make a big differance!! also use a fine grit steelwool pad to clean up parts before u paint like the hood hinges etc. makes the paint smoother and cleaner!! :waving:

You did say you need a lot of help, so, if I was you I would spend a little more time on schoolwork and practice your grammar (spelling, punctuation, correct capitalization etc.). ;)

Hey, your dad didn't add stupid things to the car ... Just like you don't know, maybe there were some things he didn't know. And, no matter how much or how little he knew, you now have a car and a project. Be happy and be patient. Probably every guy ( and girl ) who hangs out here can tell you about a bad decision or 2 he ( or she ) has made in regard to their car. It is called learning. We can give you a ton of advise, but either you have to do it yourself or pay someone to do it for you. Since you don't have money, start learning. Cleanliness and neatness are excellent starting places ... And, pay extra attention to anything you touch electrical ... Electricity can causes fires without exposure to gas. And, like DjD said, refrain from the **** words.

try and make it so you don't see all the cluttered stuff, this is my engine compartment. You really need to start getting detail oriented. If you really want it to look good your gonna have to pull the motor. Get rid of everything that you don't need like that horn etc. Start looking for gadgets and giszmos on ebay, but stay away from cheesy stuff like fake braided hose covers, billet parts and stainless parts are cool. I would get some new gaskets and take as much of it apart as possilbe, clean and spray paint everything and make sure to mask well as over spray looks tacky. I agree new black rubber hoses look good with new stainless hose clamps, put the hose clamp as far outboard on teh hose as possilbe, so the end of the hose doesnt' "flare" out. also put the nut on the bottom so yo ucan' t see it. Get new black convuluted tubing to put your wires in(but don't go overboard with the stuff) bare wires showing such as leads the the powered part are fine, just put the tubing on the main harnesses. Get new vacuum lines. And route everything very neatly.

thanks guys, but wait till i get the fendrs/inner fender is also, they are smoothed and painted body color!
