So my family and I were driving through a town near where I live, Richardson,TX, which is one of the surrounding cities of Dallas, TX, and I suddenly slammed on the brakes, whipped a U-turn with my GF looking at me like I had just gone completely insane. I pulled into the parking lot of the Richardson police station and when she realized what made me react like a spastic mad-man. Here's what I saw driving down the street:

And a few more pics:

I was waiting for an officer to walk out of the building at any minute and ask me why the hell I was taking pictures of their car but no one came out. I wanted to pop the hood but I figured....I have a toolbox full of tools in the back of my Explorer, plus several different assembly manuels for this car, etc and they'd probably walk me inside to "explain" my intentions :D Besides, it was on a Sunday and I figured the station would be low staffed.

The car has 396 emblems on the side I'm not sure if you can see in the pics. I'm going to try to get by there during the week and get some info and some better pics. I'm not sure if I should tell them it should be a crime to put police badges on a car that more often then not was running from the police, not being driven by them :) Either way, it was a cool thing to come across.

Cheers,

WOW! I thought you were gonna say you saw a "B4C" Police special or something, but THAT'S downright cool! I've never heard of a 1st gen cop car before. Must be fun for the driver ;)

Dano :beers:

Richardson is a fair sized town, it is directly bordered with Dallas and is just one of the many surrounding cities in what is known as the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex. It's no hick town by any means. It really is classified a city.

I don't know what they do with it, but I aim to find out. Notice it only has blue lights on top. In order for it to be used as an official police car I "think" it has to have red and blue lights, like the rest of the police cars in the picture. Perhaps it was a repo from a drug deal or something and they decided to keep it and use it for the purpose camaroman7d mentioned, or just about anything else similar. I'll let ya know in a few days when I can get by there.

There was a '68 Camaro police car at the Car Craft Nationals in St Paul MN, maybe someone on this site has a pic of it...it completely freaked me out when I saw it!

Maybe that one in TX was an impounded car??

By the way, here in WI the state troopers used to use blue 3rd gen Camaros as state patrol unmarked cars...they must do that in other states too.

If I see it out on the road, I'll see if he wants to race

I used to see a ton of 3rd and 4th gen cars used by the Texas State Troopers; but I haven't seen one in quite a while.

Very cool cop car... just courious, why the 5.0 in the thread title?
5.0 is a nickname for cops. I think it has Ford references :p

Ok I can accept 5-0 as in "book um Dano" but saw 5.0 as in 302 ci, as in ford, as in mustang... I get it now....
I can change the title if it makes you uneasy :p :beers:

The 5.0 thing threw me off until I saw the car. When using that "slang" term it is used like this "Uh Oh here comes 5-OH" 5.0 would be numbers you don't say here comes 5-zero. It's petty, but helps those that are not used to the slang, if you spell it out a little better.

In either case it's a cool car. Kind of like the D.A.R.E. cars the CHP has. They had/have a blown alcohol Chevy truck. Not sure if it's still around or not. They also had a 3rd Gen drag car.
