I just baught a 1967 camaro that runs and drives but needs alot of TLC. I was hopeing that someone could help me get started on this project by helping me with these codes and numbers.

VIN= 124377N147477 D

Fisher tag:

12A E
ST 67-12437 NOR 48002 BODY

TR 760-Z H-H PAINT

W 2MG 3K
I know that the engine is not the origional, plus the engine tag is gone.(if it ever had one) I think it had a 327/275 but thats just a guess.
Any help with figureing out exactly what I have would be great.

Welcome to TC, Basecar -

Decode is as follows:

1 = Chevrolet
2 = Camaro
4 = 8-cylinder engine
37 = coupe body
7 = 1967 model year
N = Norwood, OH assembly plant
147477 = vehicle serial number sequence

Decode for body number: 048002

12A = Built the First week of December.
67-12437 = Standard Interior Coupe.
NOR = Built in Norwood Ohio.
760 = Standard Black Bucket Seats.
Z = (A50) Strato Bucket Seats (without headrests).
H-H = Car Color is Mountain Green
E = Interior paint is Black
Options:
1W = (A02) Tinted W/S only
2M = (M35) Powerglide Transmission
2G = (D55) Console front compartment
3K = (Z21) Deluxe exterior trim

Not much to tell about the engine. has it been decked, and that's why the numbers are missing? They should have been stamped on the pad in front of the passenger side head, not on a tag.

The casting number and date info off the rear of the block (on top where the transmission bolts on) can give an idea of what the engine is too. It will at least narrow it to a "familiy" of engines that the casting was used for.

Thanks for the info Eric. The orig. engine is nowhare to be found. What I'm trying to do is find out what was in the car origionally. Thats what I am guessing is a 275hp 327cid. The car is just outside my door in the shop. I can get u any information off the car u need to help me figure out what the origional engine was.

It's going to be extremely difficult telling exactly which 327 was in the car, but it definately was a 327 is about all we can tell you. Can you get us the axle codes off the front of the passenger side axle:

http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#RearAxleNumbers

as well as the type and numbers off the trans. if it's original.

I think Daniel at the CRG, is also doing research on seat belt codes so I think he'd like to know those as well, should be a white tag on the belts.

Either the 327/210 or 327/275 could be had with the glide, so no help there.

If it still has the original hard line from fuel tank to the pump, that's probably your only clue left. L6 and 327/210 cars had a 5/16" ID line, while the others had 3/8" ID.

The 4P was on L30/M20 cars later in the production year. This car is an automatic and was built before the 327/275, 4 speed cars started getting the 4P.

I don't know exactly Funk. In one of my email conversations with Daniel, he asked for my seat belt codes. I'm not 100% sure if the request was based on the build date/options of my car, or if it was in general for all 67s. Let me see if I can get his attention to this thread to clarify.

Actually, I'm the one doing the seatbelt research / article.
I'm not actively looking for data, but since it's come up. :) The model # and date code from the tags on the belts would be great.
Thanks!

BTW, the article is mostly written, but I haven't HTML'd it yet. I was finishing up another article.

PS - Several CRG members (including Daniel) frequent this site.
And the new CRG forum should be up soon!

Understood, he was the one that asked me for it so.... Anything I can do to help further the knowledge I'll do. Let us know what all you guys are looking for and we can start or keep asking for.

I stop and look at every 67 Camaro I see is why I'm interested. I don't mind getting any information I can off of each, and if I talk to the owners, I always mention the CRG site and this site for them to visit.

thanks everybody for all the info you gave me. I finally got some time to check out the other numbers you wanted. the rear end number is either PE or PF (hard to read) 093061. and the seat belt numbers are 49 A-66 and the size of the fuel line is 3/8". what do you come up with now?

PE is a 3.08 posi 10 bolt. 49 A-66 is just the date code on the seat belts. There should be a model # also. Unfortunately, we will probably never know what engine was originally in the car. It is a 50-50 pick between the base V8 (LF7) and the L30.

Didn't some 1967 Camaro's have the 283 V8 installed in them?
