69 vert with 383 NA. My new fuel tank and vented (correct) cap and I get fuel FLYING out the cap when full and during acceleration. Tried to fix cap with extra seals but got too much pressure and affected engine with too much fuel pressure to carb. The repo tanks have no vent and the vented cap let fuel spill. Any solutions? Thanks

It wasn't until 69 that vented tanks came along. So the 67 and 68 guys, like me, wish we had vented tanks. At first I wasn't going to get into the fuel lines, but now I'm thinking of going with a vented setup. Probably end up replacing the tank too. We're all curious what you ended up doing, and if you don't mind, what it cost you.

There are two easy solutions that I've found. The easiest is to replace the sending unit with the 2 line sending unit: this unit was stock on some cars. Use the 3/8" for a fuel line and the other(1/4") for the vent. Classic Ind has it. The other is to braze a nipple to the sending unit, or some other location on the tank and use that for the vent. Then replace the vent cap with a "tight sealing" cap.

No I don't have 2 lines in the engine compartment, just the 3/8". I purchased a new tank in the past, but it wasn't vented, didn't know they had vented replacements. I didn't run into this problem until the weather warmed up enough to cause a problem with increased vapor pressure in the tank due to the tight fitting cap. This caused the motor to misfire, die, etc. Choice: either leave the vented cap on and lose gas out the back but have a healthy running motor or find a way to vent the tank and use a tight fitting cap. The new sending unit was less than $50. You can purchase a tight cap or add a thicker gasket to the vented cap.

I'm revisting this thread for update. Didn't need to change sending unit. Got a new gas cap with vent valve (AutoZone, O'Reilly's etc.) it is tight fitting and won't spill gas. Then made a very small drill hole in the center rivet of the cap to help vent. Talked to some 60's and 70's Chevy racers to get that idea, thats what they did back then. Worked perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
