It's something you don't see very often in the cars, but you almost never see them in convertibles (except for 2 people on this site). It's the convertible that makes this one special, just don't know if it's $3500 special.

Maybe I should rip it off my car and sell it? Naaahhh. I do get lots of comments about it. Including many who say that it was never offered. We all know the type.

I’ve only seen one car in person that had them. Local guy selling parts in the newspaper back in 85. Had a 69 rs ss 396 with the vigilight (sp), perfect black deluxe interior, tach/ gauges, am/fm blue light, rosewood wheel and trim, A/C, think it had power windows and tilt wheel but don’t remember if it was an auto or 4 speed. It was on stands in his garage with the rearend out. He said he was having the posi rebuilt but said he’d take $5k for it after he put the rear end back in. I thought that price was a bit steep at the time…

I saw the same fiber optics a week earlier for $1,600 and a NOS liquid Chain complete for $1,500. Both on Ebay..interesting stuff..not the usual gobley goop you see on Ebay

Mark C. Is one of the 2 my car, see signature. I would love to get it working, maybe someday when a restoration is in site, but now it is just a great driver.

It is great when people ask what the hell that is and they say they did not know fiber optics were around that long ago.

Geezer, what color was the camaro you saw for sale and where? other than the rosewood wheel, mine has all those options, trying to find out where it is from originally, can only trace it back to 1985 in PA.

Nope one is a 68 (posted above) and the other is a 69 that belongs to DJD. There may be others here as well those are just the two I remember. Now theres 3 I guess.

This one didn't sell, no bidders. I don't think it was a complete setup anyway, didn't look like all the lamp fittings were there.

Pony: It was in San Antonio Texas but it was a coupe. He had a red $29.95 paint job on it to keep it from rusting until he could afford a quality job. Darn… my butt hurts again….

I found out there are tiny holes in the front parking light lense that the fiber pushes into for sending signal back to the fender display. I have a pic of that lense somewhere here. Are they a different part number for that lense for fiber equipped cars or are all of them dimpled equally?

This is what I had as place for fiber line to attach but how does it connect? Glue? push thru the plastic?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Nope, they attach to the top of metal housing the lense sits in. The lenses are all the same. That divit is probably where the molten plastic was injected into lense mold when the lense was formed.

The lamp housings used with the U46 system are different for the non U46 lamps.

If you were looking at the housing from the back and the top, both have a flat area above where the bulb socket is. The Fiber ones have a hole about a half inch around in them. Pic's coming this evening...

Went and looked at the AIM and the front parking light housing and the rear license plate light housing are different than the base cars housings. The headlight and rear tailight fiber connections are made in the lamp connectors themselves. The fibers slip into a space in the connectors themselves.
