My friend and I are getting ready to head to Fontana ca to do the Richard Petty Nascar experiance. I'm looking for someone who has been to tell me a couple things, first being, how fast (mph) do they let you go? I'm assuming they have the cars set either via rpm limiters and/or very restrictive carb restrictors. The ad says 600 hp cars, but never says just how fast you can attain. We're only wanting to go if we can do 150 mph or better, as we've both done 130+ on the street (in the old, old days, calm down guys). So anyone out there "been there, done that"? Thanks.

Did 8 laps at Kansas speedway the laps went way to fast.Took me a couple laps to get comfortable in car.You have a car in front of you that you chase and he will go as fast as you can chase him.I got up to 138 and the fastest guy that day did 149.I am told they will do around 160.The cars will drive by themselves.I was faster every lap and felt really good the last lap! If my wife would have just spent more money for more laps.Have fun it was a blast but kinda pricey or so I was told.Fastest I have ever been is 167 on my bike and the car was so smooth it felt sloww.

You dog !! Have a good time!

Friends of mine went to Buck Baker School here on the East Coast and the cars went 160 mph.

I did the one at Charlotte. Excuse me I meant Lowes. LOL
Anyway top speed was 140. You do indeed follow the instructor and he will keep going faster as long as you keep up. I didn't get the hang of it until the last two laps then it was over. 8 laps total for $350. It was a blast though.
The cars at Charlotte were basically older race cars that they maintain for that purpose. As for advice just don't forget everything they tell you during the class part. Make sure you stay on the instructors tail from the very beginning or you will spend the rest of the time trying to catch up.
Have fun.

I did this at Texas Motor Speedway. Same as the others in you had to follow an instructor. They restricted us to a top speed of 150 mph. I got there but had several in my group who couldn't quite make it. In fact, I had one guy in my group who only got to about 80!:clonk: I was thinking, geez, I do 80 on the freeway!

It's a blast.

Ahh, a blast from the past.

I did the Monster Mile about ten years ago. But it was so memorable it seems like Yesterday.
Great time and highly recomended to anybody.
Like Somebody already said, Pay Attention to the instructor!

Our deal was one instructor/pace car and two of us at a time on the track for 10 laps.
If both cars were doing OK the pace car would speed up accordingly.

I spent about the first three laps thinking that anbody with a few dollars and a drivers license can do this and actually laughing to My self.
Started to get the feel of things for the next few laps as making turns at that speed just felt totally unatural. To Me it was like making a 10 second pass at the dragstrip and hanging a left through the traps but the car stays glued to the track.
Decided to lay back a little (I was the third car) and played catch up for the last two laps. When We pulled back into the pits, one of the spotters/track observers came over to Me (I thought I was in trouble ) and chuckled saying I knew what You were doing and timed your last lap, came out to a 27 second something lap which comes out to about 130mph. Gave Me a "good job".
Some of the other groups hit the same speeds later on so it was no big deal really. It was just that the car in front of Me was a little slower and the pace car adjusted accordingly.
I couldn't imaging going any faster and driving in traffic on Sunday. Those Guys are crazy!

I did glance down at the tach for a billionth of a second one time since it was making My ears kind of pop the last laps just before letting off a little for the turns and it was just a little over 8K. So the cars are definately respectable.

I would definately like to do another track someday.

Funny side note:
I went with a group from the shop I was working at, put together by My old boss. Along with the Guy's from the shop was the accountant/manager "Mike". He was the owners right hand man so to speak.
Mike really isn't a performance car Guy and refused to drive. My boss made Him ride with the pace car instead.
The driver see's that Mike is scared to death and out on the track They go. They are up to speed and Mike says the Guy starts driving with one hand and starts fumbling around with his suit.
While still driving the car with one hand through the turns etc leading the other two cars on the track, He pulls out a sandwich from His pocket, takes a bite and offers it to poor Mike. He had obviously done this before and was ready for somebody like Mike to go for a ride. Just about scared the Guy to death.
We messed with Mike for weeks over that one. It was almost as good as driving the cars.
