Well,

I'm here in the DFW area and would be willing to lend a hand.

I know many qualified shops (that have done loads of First Gen Camaros) that might be willing to do the work on this car.

I'll even trailer it up here if need be.

Thanks Dennis. That's the direction I was going to try first thing tomorrow. Tom, thanks for the thoughts. I'd certainly like to help and do what we can but we should see if something is already in place either financially or for working on the camaro. I'd hate to see us arrange anything and possibly interfere with work already assigned.

We have 5 members from that area, 4 joined but never posted (from 2001+), including someone with the email address of sgtlawrence@
2 of them list the military as their occupation.

Hey guys, My name is Jerry, I was the unit Instructor Pilot in that unit with Shane Colton, we overlapped about 1 year their at Hood. Shane was excited about getting his camaro on the road and we always talked about our cars when we saw each other. Shane as you know was killed on Easter Sunday of this year leaving behind his Son Lance, and wife Inge. Shane had already put together a 383, new quarters, and was working on a newer dash and newer gen tilt steering column as well as a new rear end setup with disc brakes. Of course when the unit deployed he put the car in storage there in Killeen thinking he would get back to it when he got home. As we all know now he never made it. Shane was a great soft spoken guy, he had offered to help me when I finally do my quarter panel fix on my car. I know he would have given the oppurtunity. Inge his wife has taken Shanes death very hard, they were very close, closer than most couples I have seen over my years in the Army. They went everywhere together and were very happy I always thought. I remember a special time for me when my son who was 9 at the time was visiting from England (I get him a few months a year) we were over at Chuck Fortenberry's house in troy Texas just north of Temple for a C Company "Vampires" get together, my son was there with me as was Shane his wife and their son Lance. Also there were 2 great friends of mine and all the guys from our company, Ron Young and Dave Williams, you remember them, they were the 2 apache POWs shot down at the beginning of the war.My son and Lance had never met but Josh really enjoyed playng with him and the other boys all day, playing in the pool and such. Sad thing is, Chuck was also killed with Shane in that shootdown. I think back on that day now and remember how we were all sitting around a fire, talking, drinking beer and talking about things, our famalies, and what we want in life,it was a happy time. I cant help but think about how Shanes and Chucks sons, who were so happy and having so much fun that last summer, not knowing it was their last summer with Dad. I can only imagine how they felt losing their dads, I think what if it was my son Josh who lost me it makes me tear up right now. I have placed myself in their shoes many times, knowing what happened to them in explicit detail and it hurts me very bad. They didnt deserve what was dealt for them, they deserved better. I know I am rambling, but In the business I am in, I thank the Lord everyday I come back and get to see my Son, knowing that people that were good friends of mine do not have that luxury, and their Sons are growing up without their dad to show them those things that fathers do.

With that if there is anything I can do I will, I am in Korea and will not be back in texas until end of summer 2005. Inga still lives there in Killeen with Lance, Shane was buried in Killeen and she intends to stay there. They had just bought a new house. I do not have her new contact information, but would be able to track it down very easily. I still have quite a few peoplein that area in other units that were Shane and Chucks friends also.

you can email me at:

DjD and Al, when you find a resource or Quarterback for anything we can help with, Sue and I are more than happy to jump in too. I was blessed with 2 girls, so helping a young boy, well, its just time for us.
Jerry, Gods speed back to your family too.

I have also sent mail to overhaulin'. It's not a long word crafted letter but I hope it gets their attention. Here is an extract.

Good morning.

I do not normally send messages like this let alone from my work account, however this message has inspired me and a host of others who are on a technical Camaro board to bring this to your attention.

Please take a moment and review the message string attached.

***link***
I and many others are willing to contribute to this effort. It could be as simple as a shop affiliated with the show to take contributions via credit card or pay pal.

If ever, this is a worthy endeavor for your show. I look forward to hearing from you.

For some reason, I think this will happen. It may be the cynic in me, but I don't think they could resist the drama. If it does happen, I hope that they are respectful and thoughtful in how they handle this.

Not that it matters what I think but you guys have no idea how proud I am of every single one of you. You're the best.

Ok. I caught the story on the news tonight and it appears that the car is at a local college in Killeen.
I was able to find some information about the college but it’s probably closed for the holidays.

It would be nice if we could figure out what the car needs and or needs done to it, and get our resources together so that we can do something, and figure what and when. If I had my druthers, when contact with the family is called for, I’d rather have sherr20 contact them if he wouldn’t mind.

I'm just waiting to hear the plan. Checkbook is at the ready. Maybe we could start a new thread or change the title of this one to be a little more specific in what is going on to attract more members attention? Check out sherr20's post about those who truly care. I can envision the same thing here.
Just me thinkin' again.

You guys can count me in for sure. Admin has my e-mail address. I also posted this link over on Team Chevelle so alot of the guys over there may have a chance pitch in also.

I haven't heard anything from TLC/Overhaulin. I would gather they get a sizable amount of mail per day/week so perhaps one week turn around time is to be expected.

Is it the general concensus that we want to do this localized? Meaning we drive and conribute?

Do want to continue with The Learning Channel ideas? Along that line, we could begin an email campain to suggest a wide segment thinks they should do it.

We could also outsource directly to DSE or another company? (What the big speed channel resto shop in Toronto?)

Continue on all front and see which one looks most promising? Ideas?

Rick.

If you guys want me to contact Inge, It will take me a few days and I think it might be best to wait a few days past Christmas to do so. I am not sure how she is doing without Shane for the first time in quite a few years. I will talk to my friends back at Ft Hood that were also in the unit and see how things are. Inge is from Germany and may have gone back there for Christmas to be with family or up to Oklahoma to be with Shanes family.

Tell me what you guys think.
This is great to see you guys wanting to help, I want to help also as much as I can, having the honor of knowing Shane, it is the least I can do.
Jerry
