:clonk: By the VIN can you tell the difference between a RS model and a sport coupe? Is there any other ways to tell for sure what you might have. I have no build sheet so I'm not sure if I have a plain sport coupe and someones attempt to convert to a RS. Or a RS with some parts replaced with standard parts. Are there characteristics common to one and not the other?

The vin will only tell you the following:

Year
I6 or V8
Coupe or convertible
and - with some deciphering - The nth car of the model year

The trim tag will tell you more, but it varies drastically by year. Give us some more details and you'll get plenty of help.

What year?
I have a 69. By the tag on the fire wall I know that it was built in Norwalk, in Oct., V-8, sport coupe, Olympic gold color with black vinyl top. The issue is that it has RS headlight doors but standard inner fender wells. So was the car a RS, in an accident and someone replaced the wrong inner fenders? Or someones attempt to convert over to a RS? Just wondering if there were other features common to one and not the other that would help me figure out what I really have. My car also came with factory air. It also had some components which I took off, that were part of dealer add on for cruise control. Any other body parts that you would find only on one or the other? Brake set up disc/drum. Mono leaf rear springs.

The windshield wiper motor is RS specific, you can check that and the plant was in Norwood, Ohio.

You can also check the rear back-up lights to see if the panel looks to be an original. The original should have a stamped look to it, versus a cut. This also assumes that the rear panel has not been replaced at some point. The hole in the firewall for the vacum lines is also specific to the RS model.

Where were the vacuum line holes located at on the firewall? Is the rear taillight/backup light wiring harness different?

RS inner fenders have extra holes punched in them for the bellcrank parts that operate the headlight doors. :)

You're right I messed up on the city name. Where do I check to verify the wiper motor id numbers?
The end of the wiper motor should be stamped 5045605. Also there should be a headlight squirter solenoid attached to the top of the wiper motor. These are '69 RS only items.

Do all RS models have headlight washers? I'm assuming that is what the squirter is for.

Yes but only on the '69.
