I got the new 489 in today! Thirty minutes to put the motor in, five hours to get the headers to fit! But over-all it went well. Need to hook up exhaust, hoses, ect. Hope to have runnning in about a week. Here's a pic...

THAT IS SWEET! I know what you mean about the headers.. (drivers side is a b****) I just installed my 427 last weekend and have been trying to get everything completed.. Hoping to crank it up in a day or so.. :)

What rad are you going with?

I'm going with an AFCO aluminum radiator. I have it already, just haven't installed it yet. Yea, the drivers side header really sucked. What we ended up doing was taking the passenger side motor mount off the block and removing the tranny dipstick. After that we moved the motor as far to the right as we could while on the engine hoist and the header went in with no problems. Had we known this method AHEAD of time, it would have saved us hours of work. I hope others can benefit from reading this as well.

Thanks Greg,

Yeah, this is the first Big Block I ever built. Had a warm 327 in there before, but I can't wait to see what happens when I smash the go peddle in this thing. Scares me sometimes when I think about it!:D I'll take it to an old parking lot first just to see which way she goes under full throttle a few times

Good luck!! and HANG ON!!!! :)

your killing me BB489, i had to send my AFR heads off to get milled. We have almost identical combos
4.350x4.25x6.8 inch rod.
Lunati Voodoo Street Solid
255/263 .680/.680 110/104
AFR 325 with CNC chambers option (392 CFM at .650 lift )
the Isky Redzone's are ordered from WolfPlace
as will be the pro comps.
I grabbed a Ceramic coated Dart 4500 single plane intake.
I also had a friend offer up the exact same header your running to me new in box. I think ill try them first if not ill have to order the DynaTech 2 1/8x3.5 that are made for Tall Decks in First gens.

So you see your killing me ;) well maybe if you get yours running first ( and you will because theres a delay milling my heads to 116 ) ill know more what to expect.

I hope i dont have to drop $1000-1200 on custom headers. Now that the header is in how much room is there between your header and power steering box? Can you take a pic of this if you get time?

Thanks again for the heads up on the frame mounts too!@
