So I'm on my way to pick my son up from camp today and I spot an "old car" in someone's front yard up ahead. Obviously for sale.

It's a Buick Skylark.... it's black inside and out.... it's got a ducted hood..... and it looks totally stock right down to the tires.
I almost crashed!
I really, really want a 70-72 Skylark. It doesn't have to be a GS... just a real nice survivor is all I ask. I've always wanted one.

So I pick him up and we pull over so I can take a look. I almost tripped and fell in these peoples front yard when I notice these big red letters in the grill that say GS.
I next notice the GSCA sticker in the window. Oh man.... I'm not worthy!

Well, this '72 Skylark must really be a GS! So I jot down all the trim tag and VIN numbers and sure enough, this car that hasn't been registered or inspected since 1998 really IS a '72 GS. The cob webs and dust seem to prove that it's been in someone's garage since then.

Other than the usual suspension bushing rot and rusty trunk pan, the car is 100% complete and original.
Then I spot a piece of paper in the window that's a print-out from some automotive site like KBB or Edmunds detailing what the car is worth in a low price range, mid range and high range. He knows what he has obviously, and he wants to play the 'Best Offer' game.
:(

I can't afford what he'll be asking for it, even at the low range.... even if I sold the Camaro. Yes, I said it. I admit it. Shoot me! But how often do you see something like this sitting in someone's front yard FOR SALE?!

Oh, the Gods of Lotto.... please smile upon me!

The sites that support that car are just not as popular and good as this one, so you should keep the Camaro......:p

ohh and you might have to give up that mod tag as well!!

And if you never stopped digging that metal part in your back yard might be an old Skylark...LOL

Joe, those cars are cool, not guite as cool as a camaro but, they are nice...I bet if you dig up that alumnium in your backyard, you might have just about enough scrap to get that sucker...;) Mike (sorry Joe, couldn't resist)

Theyre pretty cool cars, restored one a few years ago. It's Engine.

But parts for them are a real pain. If it isnt shared with the chevelle, you'll likely have to hunt or make it. I recall an NOS grille for it being $1400, and that was almost three years ago

Yeah, parts are scarce for sure. But I don't plan on breaking any! ;)
It sure would make an awesome stable mate for the Camaro.
Maybe I'll take pics of it tomorrow and just keep dreaming. Hopefully the owner won't come out of the house and start talking. I'm liable to put a For Sale sign on the wifes and my vehicles, and sell my plasma.

Tartar sauce! Why does it have to be black AND all original? Why couldn't it be a rusty old Skylark with an engine transplant and shredded upholstery?
I guess I shouldn't be looking for that next project until the one I have is registered with the DMV first, huh? Besides, the wifes project car is next anyway.
:)

I had a 1969 Gran Sport California. That car was awesome. It was my third favorite car I ever owned, right behind my first 67, and my 72 Olds Cutlass (sort of a 442 look-a-like)

That GS was my beach cruiser when I lived in Virginia. I paid 1500.00 bucks for it in 1988. No rust, oxidized paint, and a motor you had to run to appreciate. I might add it to a Camaro garage, but never as a replacement. :)

Would be a good addition. A very nice riding car, I know.

I didn't think I'd like an engineless 70 GTO, but I bought one and bought the neighbor's totaled 69 GTO, did the transplant into the 70 and shees' what a ride! Total price, in 1985, $1000.
